Yash Chopra was born on 27 September 1932 and was a film director, script writer and film producer. He started his career by working under I.S. Johar and his elder brother B. R Chopra.
Yash Chopra was born in to a Punjabi family in Lahore which he left for Mumbai in order to fulfill his dream of making films. He made his directorial debut with Dhool Ka Phool in 1956, starring Mala Sinha and Rajendra Kumar. The movie was a commercial success and gave Yash Chopra the strength to carry on his passion. His next movie, Dharmputra, a political drama hit a nerve and ever since, he did not direct a political drama again. Over the years Yash Chopra delivered hits like Daag, Deewar, Trishul, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe. Yash Chopra introduced Shahrukh Khan as a villain with cult classic Darr and then later as a romantic hero in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. After a hiatus of 7 years he next directed Veer-Zaara, a cross border romance starring Shahrukh Khan, Priety Zinta and Rani Mukerji and in 2012 Yash Chopra directed his last movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.
Yash Chopra married Pamela Singh in 1970 and has two sons, director Aditya Chopra and actor Uday Chopra. Yash Chopra passed away in late 2012 due to health complications.
