Vivek Oberoi was born on 3 September 1976 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. He was born to Tamil mother and Punjabi father, Suresh Oberoi.
Vivek made his debut as an actor in Ram Gopal Varma’s movie, Company and received the Filmfare Award for Best Debut and Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal. He later appeared in movies like Road and Dum which under performed at the box office. His major breakthrough as an actor was in 2002 with Saathiya. His portrayal of a romantic hero earned him his first Filmfare for Best Actor. He next appeared in films like Yuva, Kisna: The Warrior Poet. His performance in Omakara won him accolades from Gulzar. His next performance as gangster Maya Dolas in Shootout at Lokhandwala got him his first Filmfare nomination as the Best Villain.
Though Vivek again appeared as a romantic hero in movies like Prince, his portrayal’s did not charm the audience. Vivek’s negative leads are appraised by the critics and the audience as well. His portrayal of a south Indian politician, Paritala Ravi in Rakht Charitra part one and two was widely appreciated.
Vivek Oberoi was awarded the Red and White Bravery Award in 2006 for re-building a village which was severely hit by Tsunami. He founded The Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation (YOF) and is also involved in several other charities.
Vivek Oberoi married Priyanka Alva in Bangalore. The couple is now blessed with a son, Vivaan Veer Oberoi.
