Last year in an interview, she had said, “Ab bahut wait karva liya sabko. I am taking my time to say yes, but once I say I do, it will be for keeps as I firmly believe in the institution of marriage,”. Though she was bold enough to discuss her marital plans, she refused to divulge any further information. And if rumours are to be believed, she will say, “I do” to Wasim Akram whom she met on the sets of the dance reality show, Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina.

And we insist on I do, because she had also said, “I always imagine myself as a bride who will wear a gown, with a long train and veil. I find the idea of walking down the aisle and then being handed to the groom by the father very romantic,”.

Priyanka answered: Disregarding the reference to a “living” woman, Priyanka said “There are a lot of people I admire, but one of the most admirable people is Mother Teresa, who has been so compassionate, considerate and kind.”

Miss Universe 2000, the 49th Miss Universe pageant was held on May 12, 2000. Lara Dutta was crowned as the Miss Universe 2000. She was aged 22 years back then. She answered very beautifully, the final question, thus impressing the judges and entire audience. She said, “Beauty pageants are a platform for women to voice their opinions and help them enter the field they wanted to enter, be it entrepreneurship, the armed forces, politics, and so forth. She also said beauty pageants made women the strong, independent individuals they are today because of all the help they give women.” She achieved the highest score in the swimsuit competition and her finalist interview score was the highest individual score in any category in the history of the Miss Universe contest. Majority of the judges gave her the maximum 9.99 mark.

Bollywood divas Madhuri Dixit and Sushmita Sen were awarded for their individual excellence in the field of acting and entrepreneurship.

Madhuri was awarded with the platinum diva award, while Sushmita on the other hand took away the woman entrepreneur award for successfully running her organization –I AM SHE, at the Planman Media’s Powerbrands Hall of Fame awards held at Kingdom of Dreams recently.

“I am very proud and honoured after receiving the award. It reiterates the fact that people still look at me with integrity. I have come here with a lot of hard work,” said Madhuri Dixit. She was accompanied by husband Sriram Nene.

Sushmita Sen said: “It has been a journey for me. I won Miss Universe in 1994, got to do my first film ‘Dastak’ in 1996 and now I receive this woman entrepreneur award for I AM SHE, which I opened two years ago.”

The awards for rising star female and rising star male went to actors Parineeti Chopra and Prateik Babbar, respectively.

“Just a year ago I was not even planning to become an actress. I was working in corporate industry. I always thought of becoming a banker. But I think destiny has its own role to play,” said Parineeti.

“It feels really good that I have been getting so many awards. I promise to keep working harder and I hope to keep everybody happy,” she added.

Prateik Babbar, dedicating his trophy to the people he has worked with so far said: “This is really encouraging. I would like to dedicate this to all the people who I have worked in all my films”.

An award for exemplary contribution to Indian theatre was given to theatre veteran Tom Alter.

In the category, India Ki Shaan, celebrity chef Vikas Khanna was honoured at the awards ceremony.
