Sushmita Sen was born 19 November 1975 into a Bengali family living in Hyderabad. Her father Shuber Sen, is a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander, and her mother Subhra Sen, is a jewellery designer. Sushmita was crowned Miss Universe 1994 at the 43rd edition of the Miss Universe Pageant and made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win the crown.
She made her debut in Bollywood with Dastak in 1996 and later appeared in Biwi No.1, 1999. Her performance in Biwi No 1 won her the Filmfare award in the Best Supporting Actress category. She next got nominated for her role in Sirf Tum as Best Supporting Actress.
Sushmita Sen’s first commercial success as the lead actress was Aankhen for which she also received critical acclaim. Her other hits include Main Hoon Na, where she was Shahrukh Khan’s love interest. Later, in 2005, she delivered another huge hit, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, along with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Her most recent movies are Karma, Confessions and Holi in 2006 opposite Randeep Hooda, Do Knot Disturb, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag in 2007 and Dulha Mil Gaya in 2012.
Sushmita had a steady relationship with Rajat Tara but the relationship ended after she won the Miss Universe crown. She was later dating Mudassar Aziz whom she met in 2008 during the filming Dulha Mil Gaya. They broke up in 2010. Sushmita Sen was also linked with Randeep Hooda. She has two adopted daughters, Renee and Alisah.
