Produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Varun’s father, David Dhawan, the film goes on the floors this June.

David is known for making comedy films like “Coolie No.1″, “Hero No. 1″, “Deewana Mastana”, “Biwi No.1″ and “Haseena Maan Jaayegi” while Varun made his Bollywood debut with “Student of the Year” (SOTY).

“‘Main Tera Hero’ is one of our most commercial scripts. An out and out youth and family entertainer peppered with the right dose of romance,” said Alpana Mishra, chief executive officer, Balaji Motion Pictures, in a statement.

“Varun has amassed an incredible following post ‘SOTY’ amongst the teenagers and his father is the best when it comes to delivering family entertainers. We are super excited to bring the family together,” she added.

With the 2012 film, Karan had launched three new faces – Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Kayoze Irani. Now, the filmmaker is determined to come out with a sequel.

“For all those asking… definitely planning SOTY 2. Dharma (Productions) plans to make it a franchise and launch new talent with it each time,” Karan posted on Twitter.

‘Student Of The Year’ was a big hit among young audiences and it did well in the metros. Karan has always encouraged and supported young talent.

In the past, he has given a platform to directors like Karan Malhotra (“Agneepath”), Shakun Batra (“Ek Main aur Ekk Tu”), Ayan Mukherji (“Wake Up Sid”), Rensil D’Silva (“Kurbaan”), Tarun Mansukhani (“Dostana”), Siddhartha Malhotra (“We Are Family”) and Punit Malhotra (“I Hate Luv Storys”).

While no dates or names have been mentioned yet, SOTY sequel is a big news for fans of the original movie and aspiring actors.

A source said: “Yes, he has almost finalized this action film. It takes him into an altogether difference space when compared to the two films that he has been a part of.”

In fact ever since the release of the Karan Johar film, feelers had started coming his way for action genre. However he wanted to assess all options before consenting to his next.

“He has a fantastic physique he is pretty much in the action hero mode and he too is keen to do action but not the kind where you see men flying around in air and kicking 10 goons simultaneously. Given the kind of built that he boasts of, it would be a pity if he doesn’t get a chance to get his kicks and punches look solid indeed. For his next flick, his action would be realistic,” added the source.

Wait! Not only the best but also the worst will be receiving the awards. Yes! The Golden Kela Awards, which recognises the best of the worst in Hindi cinema, is the Indian version of the Golden Raspberry Awards. This year will mark the 5th edition of the awards. The winners are decided by audience vote.

Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan’s much hyped films Dabangg 2 and Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be competing for the worst film trophy.

The other films that will be nominated in the same category include Housefull 2, Son of Sardaar, Khiladi 786 and Joker.

Akshay Kumar comes on top in the worst actor (male) category with his four releases – Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, Joker and Khiladi 786.

Ajay Devgn is also a part of this list with two nominations for Son of Sardaar and Bol Bachchan,  Imran Khan for Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Sanjay Dutt for his villainous role in Agneepath and Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan for their debut Student Of The Year.

The Bollywood beauties are not to be left behind! Anushka Sharma (JTHJ), Sonakshi Sinha (for everything she did) and Deepika Padukone (Cocktail) have been nominated for for worst actor (female) Golden Kela Award 2012. They also have some competition from newcomers – Farha Khan for Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi, Alia Bhatt for Student Of The Year and Diana Penty for Cocktail.

This year was the year of sequels with 8 sequels being released. Dabangg is visibly the latest entrant into the category.

The 5^th edition of the awards, also features awards categories like ‘Most Irritating Song’, ‘Most atrocious lyrics’, ‘Baawra ho gaya hai ke award‘, ‘Why are you still trying?’ award among many others.

“We could not help but nominate the ‘Indian Moviegoers’ in the ‘Bawara ho gaya hai ke award’ category for spending more than 600 crores on Bol Bachchan, Housefull 2, Agneepath, Rowdy Rathore and Ek Tha Tiger (we’ll keep adding the crores as figures keep coming in for Khiladi 786 and Dabangg 2),” said Jatin Varma, Founder, Golden Kela Awards.

The Golden Kela Awards have come up with a new category Anti Kela Awards, which will be announced shortly. Anti-Kela awards are given to the films that were meaningful and entertaining, while still being in the mainstream.

“He is reacting not like a director but as a father. He is just very proud that I am doing something in life and my first film has released, people have liked my performance,” Varun Dhawan said.

Another reason why Varun is celebrating is because Amitabh Bachchan too loved his performance and took to twitter to praise the young actor.

Varun said: “Amitji (Amitabh) has tweeted for me saying that he liked my work. So that is a really big thing for me that Amitji has said something for me.”

Student Of The Year also marked the debut of Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra. The movie received a great response at the box office and is still running strong.

Varun said: “It’s our first film, so nerves are kicking in actually, but at the same time we are excited that the audience will finally go and see it because we have worked all this while for the film. Whether the film is good or bad everything is up to them now.”

The first trailer of Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’ is out and it promises to be an out and out Gen-X film.

Introducing three newcomers: Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan,’Student Of The Year’ is a story of three friends who study in Dehradun’s Saint Teresa High School, a premier-uber sleek-English school, preppy yet very trendy, which is a small world in itself. Name it and you will find it, the school’s loaded with facilities including swimming pools, treadmills, playgrounds, running tracks, and swanky class rooms.

Rishi Kapoor plays the principal of the school. The story sees a transition when the three bestest* buddies turn foes so as to win the ‘Student Of The Year’ competition.

The film is produced by Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan under the banner of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment. The film’s music is by Vishal-Sherkhar.

SOTY hits theaters on October 19.
