Sridevi

Sridevi Kapoor was born on 13 August 1963 and is prominently known as Sridevi in the Indian film industry. She has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and a few Kannada films. Considered to be one of India’s most successful actresses, Sridevi started her career as a child artist. Her Bollywood debut as a child artist was in Julie in 1975.

Sridevi’s debut as an actress was in Moondru Mudichu, a Tamil movie alongside Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth at the age of 13 and her Bollywood debut was Himmatwala in 1983 at the age of 20 where she was paired with Jeetendra. The movie was a box office success and guaranteed Sridevi’s career in Bollywood. Sridevi did a total of 16 movies with Jeetendra of which 11 were super hits. Movies like Gumrah 1993 and Laadla 1994 kept Sridevi on top of her trade. Her last major success before she left the film industry was Judaai in 1997. Sridevi was then seen in a TV series Malini Iyer in 2005 and returned to Bollywood with English Vinglish in 2012. The movie was a surprise success among critics as well as at the box office. Sridevi’s performance in English Vinglish gave her the title of Indian Meryl Streep.

Over the years Sridevi has appeared in 63 movies in Hindi, 62 in Telugu, 58 in Tamil 21 in Malyalam. As of 2013 Sridevi has won four Filmfare Best Actress Awards, for her role in, Meendum Kokila in 1982, Chalbaaz in 1990 , Kshana Kshanam in 1991 and Lamhe in 1992 and numerous other awards and honours. She was honoured by the Government of India in 2013 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour.

Sridevi is married to Boney Kapoor, film producer and brother of actor Anil Kapoor. Sridevi has two daughters, Jhanvi and Kushi.
