Race 2

Race 2 hit the screens with huge hype behind it due to its prequel’s splendid success. It received mixed responses from critics and fans where lot of them did not felt it as good as the 1st installment, but nonetheless Race-2 opened with mammoth collections and grossed 105 crores including international market and was declared a super-hit.

Special-26

Special-26 was released with minimal expectations after Akshay Kumar faced debacle in the form of “Joker”. The movie was directed by neeraj Pandey who delivered an off beat movie like “A Wednesday” in the past. Even the promos of the movie suggested that movie is not a routine ‘masala’ flick and as a result Special 26 opened with normal collections, but it picked up after good reviews and mouth of word. It then went on to gross over 70 crores and became a super-hit.

ABCD

ABCD was pleasant surprise in the B-town, it broke the stereotype of dance concentric movies not working in Bollywood and became an instant hit. It opened to relatively less crowds, but then it picked up later after excellent response from the audience, critics and grossed 45 crores. Considering its low budget in the making the movie can be termed as Blockbuster.

Matru Ki Bijili Ka Mandola

Starring Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma and Pankaj Kapoor in the lead roles, directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, MKBKM was an experimental fare for Vishal Bharadwaj who normally directs intense emotional dramas. But however movie opened with good collections after its good music, exciting promos and then it received decent response from the crowd and went on to collect 39 crores becoming a super-hit.

Kai Po Che

Kai Po che was a movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s famous novel “Three Mistakes of My Life”. The initial promos of the movie were very appealing and upon the release it was praised by lot of critics and celebrities which gave Kai Po che very good start. It’s collections were very sturdy for the 1st 3 weeks in multiplexes as a result it grossed over 45 crores despite of new star cast leaving every one shell shocked.

The only movie that could manage to join the 100 crore club is Race -2 but in terms of profits generated Race-2 did not do much justice to the distributors. Other movies that made some good money are Akshay Kumar’s “Special 26” which managed to collect around 70 crores but not much profits, Remo De Souza’s dance flick “ABCD” grossed 40 crores which is a great achievement, “Kai po Che” which had new comers all over it did a business of 50 crore.

On the flipside, movies like “Murder-3″, “Jolly LLB”, “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns” could generate positives response from the audiences and critics but did average business without even crossing 20 crore mark. Movies like “Zila Ghaziabad”, “Vishwaroop” have bombed at the box-office and gave tears to the distributors.

However, quarter 2 looks pretty good for the Bollywood considering the high profile movies that are releasing with “Himmatwala” being the 1st movie which is all set to release on 29th of march and movies like “Ek Thi Daayan”, “Shootout at Wadala”, “Ganchakkar”, “Zanjeer”, “Jeh jawani Hai Deewani”, “Yamla Pagla Deewana -2″ are lined up for the release.

Special 26 is director Neeraj Pandey’s second venture after critically acclaimed A Wednesday. Both the movies have in common the thriller factor and the director says that he intends to change tracks. He said, “I actually wanted to start my career with a love story. But then A Wednesday happened, and now Special 26. I may go back to love now. I haven’t decided.”

Viacom 18 Motion Pictures is keen to start the sequel at the earliest, and Akshay too is reportedly willing to give his dates. So looks like the added push may hurry up the sequel to Special 26.

Saying that chances for a sequel are positive as the script was open ended, Pandey said, “I’ve left the ending open. We saw Akshay’s character leave the country with his girl. It would now be interesting to see what happens to him and his colleagues. Let’s see.”

He added, “But Special 26 featured Akshay Kumar and we were anxious to see how audiences react to his character and performance. Fortunately, the audiences have embraced Akshay’s unusual performance. All the actors were my first choices and I was glad that they agreed to be part of this project,” saying that “less was at stake in A Wednesday as it didn’t feature any major stars”.

“Though it took time, I consider myself lucky. The response to the film has been very good,” added Pandey.

Meanwhile Special 26 which released on February 8^th, has collected ₹44 crore in the first week.

For the first time in a long while, Akshay Kumar actually acts in a movie. As leaders of the gang of theieves, Akshay and Anupam Kher put in a great performance, full of charm and guile. Manoj bajpayee, as the CBI officer chasing after them is super effective, his commanding presence filling up the screen. The story unspools in the 1980s and the chase between the cop and the thieves takes us on a trip down memory lane.

The cinematographer brings to life the landscape of Delhi, showing a Connaught Place filled with brand names that have faded from memory. Hatchback Marutis criss-cross the streets, and Anupam Kher shows the bafflement of a generation that doesn’t understand new technology. The slapstick which has become a hallmark of Akshay Kumar movies is thankfully missing and the humor is instead very subtle. The only weak link in special 26 is the romance between Akshay and Kajal Aggarwal, which does nothing for the story.

The final word on the movie: Special 26 is not a masterpiece but go watch it if you would like to pass the time and have fun doing it.

Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza’s, ABCD – AnyBody Can Dance is proclaimed to be India’s first true-blue dance film, with Indian cinema’s most celebrated dancer Prabhudheva taking the lead along with a lineup of well-known choreographers pitching as actors,the movie is going to be EPIC! That’s not it. We hear that Prabhu Deva has voiced his own line instead of getting them dubbed. When asked about it the actor said “It was a real ordeal. Not just for me, but the people who were assigned to get me to speak correctly. But I managed. Let’s see how it goes,”

Contradicting the rumours about his cameo role in the movie Prabhu Deva says ”I am there throughout, and choreographer Ganesh Acharya plays my best friend. It is not just a film that uses the film medium as a pretext for dancing. There is a very emotional story in ABCD – AnyBody Can Dance”

While ABCD – AnyBody Can Dance is all about dance, Special 26 or special chabbis on the other hand is a movie about clever men conning famous businessmen and politicians by pretending to be the CBI or Income tax officers, on the pretext of conducting raids.

Lets see which movie hits the blockbuster first. Our bet is on dancing sensation Prabhu Deva.

While Kajal Aggarwal is the leading lady in the film, one wonders that in a movie about con-men, how she really fits into the whole affair.

Akshay Kumar said: “This is Bollywood after all; it wouldn’t be a ‘film’ if there wasn’t a female beauty lurking behind the curtains and making all men weep with her very presence. In the film we may be telling the tale of a ‘Heist of the century’ but every man will always have his eyes on more than one jewel at any time in life.”

Akshay will dance with Kajal in the track ‘Gore Mukhde Pe Zulfa Di Chaava’ all set to be seen and heard with much more vigor.

Akshay further added: “In the film, Kajal is the timeless Indian beauty behind my ‘brave & immoral corrupt brains’. One could say that she is the simple flower that makes my crooked heart turn to soggy marshmallow. But then not even love can make me honest in this film, which again is a first for me.”

Special 26 will release on Feb 8th and also stars Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergil and Manoj Bajapyee.

Mujh Mein Tu- Special 26

Mujh Mein Tu starts off with the guitar and is a very spirited and idealistic sort of love song, which explores what place that special person holds in one’s heart.

Inkaar- Inkaar

The theme song of Inkaar is beautiful. It has the sound of violin trying to charm your ear buds. The music is backed by Monali Thakur’s seductive voice, which mixes well with the sound.

Party On My Mind- Race 2

Party on my mind and it features the entire cast of the film. Deepika Padukone sets the temperature soaring and looks like a beautiful dream. Over all the it’s a good and peppy number. The listener gets down to jumping from the minute the track starts to play.

Bezubaan- Anybody Can Dance

Bezubaan is a peppy number from Anybody Can Dance. The track is very good and is mainly a winner because of the dance sequences that take place while the song is going on.

Lat Lag Gaye

Lat lag gayee is from Race 2. crooned by Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade. The lyrics are catchy and make you put it on loop. The melody is really addictive and can bring the listener from the couch to the dance floor easily.

Actor Akshay Kumar recently created a record with his five releases doing a collective business of over 400crores in India alone!

However, his record creation doesn’t end there! Come February and he would be setting a new record for the maximum number of releases that a top actor has seen in a span of 12 months.

“With the release of Special Chabbis confirmed for February next year, Akshay would now have six releases in 10 months. This is a new record and no other superstar has come even close to such a feat during last one decade at least. Yes, such phenomenon was quite prominent during 70s, 80s and to an extent even 90s when stars used to work in multiple films. However, with most top league stars opting for one, or at maximum two releases a year, Akshay has been an exception”, comments an observer.

Akshay’s year began with Housefull 2 which released in April this year. Then followed Rowdy Rathore in June, Joker in August, OMG Oh My God! in September and Khiladi 786 in December.

“Over and above this, he also has Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, Boss and Thuppakki lined up in 2013. This makes it nine releases in two years, a feat that none of the three Khans or other superstars like Ajay Devgn or Hrithik has enjoyed”, says a source.

In that sense, if we turn the pages back, he is actually competing with his own record that he set around two decades ago. In 1994, Akshay had 11 releases in a single year!
