“I think only Dhanush can become ‘Raanjhanaa’. He has got the innocence. I think there is nobody who has that spirit that is as clean (as his) over here (Bollywood),” said the 27-year-old in an interview.

“There is a lot of innocence and at the same time there is a lot of love in the way he approaches everything,” added the actress who has worked with stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Imran Khan and Shahid Kapoor in the last six years.

Directed by Anand L. Rai, “Raanjhanaa” also features Abhay Deol who had earlier worked with Sonam in “Aisha”.

Slated to release June 21, “Raanjhanaa” is a love story of a Hindu boy who falls in love with a Muslim girl.

Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush were clicked at their upcoming movie Raanjhnaa’s launch. They came all dressed up to the nines for the event.

Sonam Kapoor was seen wearing a Shehla sharara which looked elegant on the diva. The beige colour of the sharara simply added more grace to her skin tone. Sonam’s beautiful smile did just the required magic. A pair of Sunita Kapoor’s earrings and Malaga clutch completed her looks.

Actor Dhanush was seen wearing a white shirt, a pair of grey chinos and strappy sandals.

The trailer of the movie has already become a superhit on YouTube. The film will hit theaters on June 21.

“They are very friendly. There were no issues at all…not even on a single day,” Rai said in a group interview.

“Raanjhanaa” will see Abhay teaming up with Sonam and southern star Dhanush.

Abhay plays a guy from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and his character is completely opposite to Dhanush, who will be seen as someone from Benaras, Uttar Pradesh.

“I needed someone with Abhay’s persona to stand in front of a boy from Benaras. I needed that confidence and complete character. I wanted to say that Indian youth, whether they are from Benaras like Dhanush or a JNU student in Delhi like Abhay, they have one thing in common, which is confidence,” said Rai.

He added that Abhay was his choice for the role.

He praised Sonam too and said: “The best part about her is that she lives at Juhu (in Mumbai) and is Anil Kapoor’s daughter. She was born and brought up in Bollywood, but she has a middle-class girl in her…I met Anil sir because of Sonam. It all comes from there. They are pure middle-class people and she has those values.”

Sonam plays a simple girl in the film and it was these values in her that convinced the director to cast her.

“Raanjhanaa” is coming out June 21.

The actress who has done femine roles in films like “Aisha” and “I hate Luv Stories” says, she enjoys the company of women.

“I love girls, I surround myself with only women. I think men bring negativity into your life sometimes. Only women work with me,” Sonam told in an interview.

She might not be that wise in choosing her roles correctly, but the actress has proved that she can never go wrong with her fashion sense. She admitted that it’s a challenge to innovate such looks every time she steps out.

“It is a challenge and that is why you have great products to help you and I have great people to help me look good. When you see me normally, I don’t look so good,” she said.

Describing herself a bit ‘self-obsessed’, Sonam says that it is her sister, Rhea Kapoor, who gives styling tips to her dad, Anil Kapoor!

“My sister is really good at that. I am really self-obsessed; so I only concentrate on myself,” the 27-year-old confessed.

Sonam says she also takes care of her food by following a strict regime.

“I eat right, I have a nutritionist who takes care of me. I have people who are constantly firing me to drink enough water. It’s about eating right, drinking enough water and being happy in general…surrounding yourself with positive, happy people,” she said.

As far as movies are concerned, she will next be seen in “Raanjhanaa”, “Bhaag Mikha Bhaag”, the“Khoobsurat” remake and YRF’s untitled film and says her endeavour is to be different on the screen.

“Raanjhanaa is a very real character. She is a serious person. I don’t think one character has also been similar to my last character. The characters that I have in ’Raanjhanaa’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Khoobsurat’ and YRF’s untitiled film, all are very different. They are about girls with incredibly different characters and journeys,” said Sonam.

“Raanjhanaa” will see her teaming up with southern star Dhanush and she said: “I love Aishwarya and Dhanush. They are the most amazing couple. I can call Dhanush a really good friend now. He is so respectful and modest and an incredible actor.”

When asked if she’d like to enter the souther film industry, “I would love to do a southern film. I saw how tough it was for Dhanush, so I am scared about it,” she said.

After Tanu Weds Manu, director Aanand L Rai (possibly the reason for the several ‘a’s  in the title too!)  has come up with his new venture, ’Raanjhnaa’ feauring Sonam Kapoor, Dhanush and Abhay Deol in the lead roles.  The movie marks the debut of ‘why this kolaveri di’ sensation and Tamil superstar Dhanush,

“The theatrical of ‘Raanjhanaa’ releasing at 12 am IST (Indian Standard Time) April 24… Countdown begins,” tweeted Sonam, who has teamed up with southern star Dhanush in it.

Set in a small town, the contemporary love story also stars Abhay Deol, Swara Bhaskar, Deepak Dobriyal and Mohammed Zeeshan.  Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has composed the music for the romantic drama.

The 27-year-old actor says that she is in no hurry to reach the numero uno spot that most of her contemporaries vie for. She has seen a series of duds – Thank You, Mausam and Players. She says that these films helped her understand the kind of roles she would like to do.
“Two years ago, I did a couple of films and lost my way. I started off with an agenda of doing certain kind of films and got discouraged by the way industry is growing. I went to the wrong path and realised that I am not comfortable in that.”

“I am not in the rat race and don’t want to be the number one actress. I want to work only in those films which make me feel as an artiste. They might not be the biggest projects, actors and directors but if my character is good I will do them,” she added.

The fashionista will soon be seen back to back in three big releases- Raanjhnaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and the remake of Khoobsurat.
In Raanjhnaa, Sonam will be seen as a student of JNU. The character is a strong one and Sonam attended workshops and interacted with the students to prepare for her role.

Speaking about the workshop, the actor said, “I did workshop with a street play group for a month. Before I started shooting for the film, I visited the campus and had interacted with the students. Even my actress friend Swara Bhaskar and her mother helped me to prepare for my role. Swara is also a student in JNU and her mother is a professor.”

The Khoobsurat remake will portray Sonam as a free-spirited girl. The film which is being produced by her sister is set to be a modern interpretation of the 1980 movie. Says the Kapoor girl, “My sister is producing the film. It’s her second film after Aisha. It’s a female oriented film. The modern interpretation of the film. It has nothing to do with the earlier part. It’s just taking the spirit of Rekhaji’s character and using it in the new story.”
