Preity Zinta was born on 31st January 1975 in Himachal Pradesh. After completing her degree in Criminal Psychology, Priety Zinta ventured into modeling. She shot to fame as the refreshing, cool model in a Liril Commercial.
Her Father Durganand Zinda was an officer with the Indian Army and her mother was Nilprabha. Her parents met with an accident when she was 13 years old. Her father died on the spot and her mother was severly injured and remained bedridden for two years. Priety zinta recalls the tragic accident and her father’s death as a significant turning point in her life, which forced her to mature rapidly.
Priety Zinta has appeared in Hindi Films as well as Telugu, Punjabi and English language films. She made her acting debut in Dil se, in 1998 followed by a role in Soldier the same year. These performances earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She received her first Filmfare Award for the Best actress for her performance in Kal Ho Na Ho. She later went on to play the lead female role in two top-grossing films in India. One of them being a science fiction film Koi… Mil Gaya, directed by Rakesh Roshan. This movie was her biggest commercial success, and then the second movie star-crossed romance Veer-Zaara, which earned her critical acclaim.
Her first international film role was in the Canadian film Heaven on Earth. In addition to movie acting, Priety Zinta has written a series of columns for BBC News Online South Asia, is a social activist, a television presenter, and a regular stage performer. She is the founder of the production company PZNZ Media and, along with ex-boyfriend Ness Wadia, a co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kings XI Punjab.
Priety Zinta has won two Filmfare awards and has also been awarded with the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Award for being the only withness not to retract in court her earlier statements against the Indian Mafia during the 2003 Bharat Shah case.
