Amitabh Bachchan going fantastical

ami1.jpgSomething as big as “Lord Of The Rings” in Bollywood is what Vidhu Vinod Chopra dreams of. It won’t be a copy or rather an inspired one from the Peter Jackson hit. It is highly original and it is fascinating. “Talisman is a fantasy; it is Indian’s reply to Lord of the Rings. It is really something that is very huge” says Chopra. His assistant Ram Madhvani will direct the film. Mr Bachchan who recently shot the promos for the movie was extremely impressed by Madhvani. The filmmaker previously worked with Big B when he made a documentary on Bachchan called ‘Everlasting Life’. The movie, featuring Mr. Bachchan in a pivotal role, will have lots of special effects. To ensure the international quality of special-effects, experts from India and abroad will be roped in for the project. Apart from this fantastic movie, Mr Bachchan will also be doing Rohan Sippy’s fantasy movie titled Aladdin.

Acid Test for Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan is the most wanted person Aditya Chopra and Karna Johar’s list. The actor was approached by Aditya Chopra for the film which is being directed by Victor (who wrote Dhoom and Dhoom 2). Karan Johar also wanted Saif to be in his next movie being directed by Tarun Mansukhani. Saif had agreed to both the projects but now the dates for both the films clash and the actor has no choice but to opt out of one of them.

saifalikhan.jpg

This is the acid test for the actor because till now he has been successful in maintaining the balance between the two banners. I guess Saif should go with the best of the two scripts which will be a plume in his already feathered cap!

Mr Bachchan doesn’t “deserve to be put on a pedestal”

bigbbook.jpgYou have heard her name in papers when she claimed that actor Amir Khan had fathered her baby-Jaan. Jessica Hines finished her MA in Film Studies and decided to explore Bollywood and then found the fascinating Mr. Bachchan. She was all set to write an authorized biography on the legendary star but Big G refused to let her continue after reading the manuscripts. So Hines creatively spun the unfinished biography into a book called “Looking for the Big B: Bollywood, Bachchan and Me” “Even if you don’t live in India, Amitabh Bachchan’s name never goes unnoticed. Personally, I don’t think he deserves to be treated like a demigod. And I don’t mean that in a negative way. Not just him, no human being deserves to be put on that sort of pedestal” says the writer after learning his importance in the industry.

Excerpts from the Book:

“Jessica,” he pronounced, “you have known me for seven years. My life has changed seven times. You will never finish this book.” There is no reason why Amitabh Bachchan and I should appear in the same sentence. He is India’s most legendary film star – a cross between Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Elvis, and with more than a hint of John Travolta. In a country like India where film stars are treated as gods, Amitabh Bachchan is the uber-god, the Big B. As for me, I am English, almost thirty, and not in the least bit famous. But here I am in Bombay about to start writing his story. How did I get here? Why did I get here? Bombay is mayhem and Bollywood maddening. The Big B is strangely aloof, the magazines are full of lies, and no one is talking. I want to write a book that explodes the myths surrounding India’s most famous man. Can I pull it off? Funny, irreverent and affectionate, looking for the Big B: Bollywood, Bachchan and Me is a fascinating look at the Bombay film industry and the story of a very unlikely friendship.

Rang De Basanti looses at BAFTA

rang-de-basanti2.jpgRang De Basanti was unlucky at the Oscars and hopes for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards (BAFTA) have also shattered. RDB was one among the contenders of the best foreign language film category at BAFTA but Guillermo Del Toro’s fantastical saga Pan’s Labyrinth won the award.Never the less RDB had the honor to share the platform with Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto and Pedro Almodovar’s Volver among others. The ceremony, officially the Orange British Academy Film Awards but popularly known as BAFTA, has become an essential pre-Oscars stop since it was moved in 2000 from April to a February date to precede the Academy Awards in Hollywood.

Shahrukh Khan tells more about how he got KBC

The whole tell tale of rift between SRK and Big B created by media has no proper basis and SRK’s recent quotes telling how STAR had approached him earlier also, clears this more. “Two years ago Star offered me KBC 2 and I asked them if Mr. Bachchan wanted to do it. And they said yes, so I backed off. Recently too when they offered me KBC 3, I said I will only do it if Mr. Bachchan says no. After they had said that he had declined to do it, I asked to see a letter from him confirming this. Only after that did I agree to do it” said the King Khan.

shahrukh_khan-1.jpg

This is not the first time SRK is being concerned enough to take permission from the people whose projects were offered to SRK. When he replaced Aamir Khan for Darr and Salman Khan for Josh, he called them up first to see if it is okay to go ahead with the project and that there are no problems from their side. SRK feels that when someone else was slated to do a particular role and you step into their shoes for whatever reasons, it is mere courtesy to ask the person whom you have replaced if it is not a problem. Sincerity and respectability is the word for such actions.

Shahrukh Khan, Farah Khan and Malaika Arora Khan- the best of friends!

malaika71ep.jpg

Malaika Arora is Shahrukh Khan’s and Farah Khan’s favorite and will always remain so. Recently Malaika did an out of the box role for Farah’s next flick Om Shanti Om absolutely for free. “Shah Rukh approached me for the role in Om Shanti Om. He said it’s sweet and funny and something I haven’t done before. She’s a superhero kind of a character, clad in a red gown and flying off rooftops, something like Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit but with a twist” says Malaika. But the best thing is that SRK and Farah sure know how to repay friends for their good deeds. Malaika was pleasantly surprised to get a hamper from the Red Chillies unit – cards from the crew, flowers, a Tag Heuer watch and cell phone. SRK sure is proving himself to be a Bollywood Oprah Winfrey!

Bachchans being questioned

Amitabh Bachchan says he wasn’t the one who gave Jr. B the Bentley for his birthday and even Amar Singh denies having presented Abhishek with the car. So who is it who presented Abhishek with the car? Is it Ash’s hush hush present for the would-be husband or some ardent fan of the would be superhero of Bollywood?

08abhishek.jpg

A few more questions have come up in media’s library regarding Chopra’s present for Mr Bachchan. Media is now wondering if the present was actually the fee for Mr Bachchan for acting in Eklavya. Why in this form? Well…tax bachane ke liye bhai!!! Par yeh andar ki baat hai!

sharmila_devil_248.jpgChairperson of the Censor Board Sharmila Tagore said that all cinema halls that fear vandalizing due to the screening of Parzania, will be given protection and security to screen the movie. This comes as a step forward for all those rallying for the screening of Parzania in Gujarat. “Except for Munnabhai, where the astrologers didn’t go on strike for some reason and there was no PIL, every film, even for Paheli, we had to go to court because they said it was promoting superstition,” PTI quoted Tagore as saying.
