“And by stars I don’t mean Aditya and Shraddha,” he joked. “I mean the stars above,” he said.

“People say the kind of sublime ideal love I’ve shown in ‘Aashiqui 2′ doesn’t exist. I say, ‘Come home. I’ve the perfect love at home. Udita cares for me unconditionally’. So I am allowing her to take full credit for the success of ‘Aashiqui 2′,” added the director.

Suri recalls 2012 as the darkest phase of his life.

“People said I couldn’t make a film with new actors and expect an audience to come in. But I was pretty sure I wanted Aditya and Shraddha to play my protagonists. My writer Shagufta Rafique and I saw them as the protagonists. See, Aditya and Shraddha may had unsuccessful films before, but that never took away from their talent. Sure. sometimes films don’t work out. Even I’ve had failures.”

Interestingly, Suri had offered Shraddha another film. “And she had rejected it long back! I remember when I met her for the first time, she came out with oil in her hair and wearing specs. She was talking to her mother in Marathi. But when I met her the next time, she had changed into a typical heroine with groomed hair and full makeup. I told her I had come to her for the way she looked earlier. Poor thing, she was confused.”

As for Aditya, it was a failed talent hunt that landed him the role.

Suri said: “We had this wise idea of launching a nationwide talent for new faces in ‘Aashiqui 2′. That idea fell flat on its face. The youngsters who came forward were not good enough and some who were promising agreed to download their videos for a screen-test only if we promised them a role. So we gave up.

“Then I saw Aditya’s pictures. When I met him, I was convinced he was my Rahul Jaikar. Unlike the other aspirants, he didn’t meet me dressed like a star reeking of expensive perfume. Some of them even had their eyebrows done! Aditya came in his shorts. He just told me honestly, ‘My brother (producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor) says you’re a good director.’

“Aditya was not aware of the impact of the original ‘Aashiqui’. So, he responded to my script and his characters without any baggage. That tilted the scale in his favour. Also, Aditya used to be a lead singer in a band, he knows how to play the guitar, so playing a musician came naturally to him.”

Reacting to critics saying Aditya doesn’t have the body language of a musician Suri shrugs, “That’s exactly what I didn’t want, the know-it-all body language.”

Also Suri, director of films like “Kalyug”, “Murder 2″, needed contrasting personalities.

“Shraddha and Aditya are two completely different individuals. That’s what we needed. And they were not stressed by having to repeat the ‘Aashiqui’ success.”

Story :

Aashiqui 2 is about a falling superstar singer Rahul Jaikar (Aditya Roy Kapoor) who is addicted to alcohol. After a brawl at a concert, he stumbles on a talented singer Arohi Shirke (Shraddha Kapoor). He likes her talent so much that he takes all the steps to make sure that she becomes a next singing sensation and eventually will falls in love with her. His efforts do turn out to be successful and she becomes “Nightingale of India”. The rest of the story is about how their personal relationship gets affected due to the “success factor”. And do they manage to uphold the relationship or do they part ways.

Performances :

Ashiqui 2 survives mainly on the performances given by the actors. Aditya Roy Kapoor performs brilliantly as a alcoholic who is looking to make Shraddha’s dream come true and to get himself back on track. Shraddha Kapoor also gives as good as performance as Aditya. Her scenes in the starting of the movie,she emotes innocence that is very endearing to watch. Though both the actors have a bit of flaws in them, but when they come together on screen it is magical. Their chemistry is beautiful on screen. In other actors, Mahesh Thakur gives good performance. Shaad Randhava who was seen in other Mohit Suri’s films is disappointing in the movie.

Technical aspect : 

Aashiqui 2′s story of the movie is not new to Bollywood. Ego clashes between couples were shown in 60′s and also the movie Abhimaan has a almost same storyline. So nothing new on the story part. However, director Mohit Suri has not showed the movie in a good way. Screenplay is not tight either. In the second half of the movie, you feel very restless and feel the urge to leave. Editing team should have trimmed a lot more in the second half. The only delight here is the music. Bhatt films have always had good songs in them and so does this flick. ‘Tum hi Ho’  and ‘Chahoon main ya na’ are my picks here.

Analysis :

In 2013, All of the Bhatt’s movies have been sequels. But this one is sequel of an much older film. Aashiqui that time gave best songs for us to hear and amazing performance by Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, both of them leapt into star category instantly. But sadly the sequel doesn’t do it. Aashiqui 2 thrives mainly on the the performance of the lead pair and on the music of the film.   The second half however doesn’t live up. It is prolonged, slow and boring. Though the story and everything around it fails, the chemistry of the lead pair is the only thing that makes you stick to your seats.

Bottomline : Awesome performances and chemistry fails to light up this love story.

“I used to go with him on the sets of his films…I have grown up watching his movies. To have such an actor as my father, I cannot explain what a proud feeling it is,” she told IANS in a group interview.

In three decades, Shakti has featured in over 500 films. He tasted success with “Qurbani” and “Rocky” and became one of the leading villains in filmdom. Later he moved to comedy and thoroughly entertained viewers with roles in “Raja Babu” and “Andaaz Apna Apna”.

Sharing her childhood days, Shraddha added: “My friends used to tease me with his characters like Raja Babu, Nandu Sabka Bandu and I used to feel nice. I used to be popular in school because of my father. So it was a good feeling.”

Shakti is strict, but pampers her a lot.

“He is very particular about what I eat. He wants me to be on a good diet and be focused  He is strict with me when he has to be. Otherwise he is a funny person and pampers me a lot,” she said.

Shakti is married to Shivangi, Padmini Kolhapure’s elder sister, and they have two children – Shraddha and Siddhant – who will be seen in “Shootout At Wadala”.

So far she had two releases and her third movie “Aashiqui 2″ is ready to hit the screens Friday. Advice on work from family members is obvious, she says.

“My family gives me a lot of advice. That is a great part of having a family from the same industry. So dinner table conversations revolve around films and filmmaking. They do guide me, I would be silly not to use them,” she said.

She feels being a star kid has its benifit, but at the end of the day, “it’s your talent, hard work, what you bring to the table and how you are able to connect with people with our own identity would take you ahead.”

However, she admits outsiders need a different zeal to succeed in the industry.

“I feel that those who come with a dream to succeed on their own terms, their drive is different…there is a different sort of fire and drive in them,” she said.

Director Mohit Suri’s offering “Aashiqui 2″ would show her as a Maharashtrian girl and her co-star is Aditya Roy Kapoor.

“I am half Maharashtrian. So I used some of personal experiences,” she said.

Actor Emraan Hashmi is all set to dance at his cousin, Mohit Suri’s post-wedding ceremony. It will be a part of a special family act for the groom.

Mohit Suri will be tying the knot with his lady-love, Udita Goswami on 29^th January. The two of them have been together since seven years, ever since Mohit directed Udita in the film Zeher.

Emraan and his cousin Smiley Suri[Mohit’s sister] will join for a dance performance on January 31^st at a post-wedding cocktail party.

“Emraan and I will be performing on a special song for Mohit’s cocktail party post his wedding. There is also a secret act planned, and I can’t reveal much about it,” Smiley said.

“Emraan’s son Ayaan and his wife Parveen will also be in the act, so we are all excited about it. There are going to be lot of surprises for Mohit on that day,” she added.

Smiley, who was a part of Mohit’s film Kalyug, is excited about her brother’s temple wedding.

“The wedding will be held at the Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple. It will be a traditional wedding and we will be having a mehndi ceremony on Jan 28 at our place,” she said.

For now, she is busy arranging a designer for Mohit.

“Mohit is busy with his film right now. I won’t be shocked if he lands up wearing a pair of jeans on his wedding. So I am trying my best to get a designer for him. We all are very excited and Mohit is my only brother, so I am all the more excited for his wedding,” she said.
