Mithun Chakraborty

Mithun Chakraborty was born as Gouranga Chakraborty on June 16, 1950 in Kolkata. He is an actor and an entrepreneur. He studied acting at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and has appeared in about 350 films including Bengali, Oriya and Bhojpuri pictures.

Before starting his career in the film industry he was a devoted Naxalite but when his only brother was electrocuted and killed in a tragic accident he returned to his family. Mithun Chakraborty made his debut in 1976 Mirgaya directed by Mrinal Sen and received the much coveted National Film Award for Best Actor. After Mirgaya a relatively low phase continued to haunt him. He got his game back with Surakshaa and continued with its sequel Wardat. His roles in movies like Hum Paanch, Unees-Bees and Aadat Se Majboor made him the most bankable star of the 1980s. In 1982 Mithun appeared in an offbeat role in a musical dancer, Disco Dancer directed by B. Subhash which was a huge success and remains a cult favourite to this day

Mithun went on to become the numero uno of Bollywood with consistent hit films and became Bollywood’s second highest paid star after Amitabh Bachchan. He married Yogeeta Bali and has four children, three sons and one daughter. Mimoh Chakraborty, Rimoh Chakraborty, Namashi Chakraborty and Dishani Chakraborty.
