Madhuri Dixit was born on 15 May 1967. Born in a Marathi family, Madhuri completed her education as a microbiologist before venturing into movies. Apart from her career in acting, Madhuri is a professional kathak dancer. She has appeared in over 68 movies as of 2007.
Madhuri Dixit made her debut in Bollywood with Rajshri Productions’ Abodh in 1984. She got recognition after her role in Tezaab in 1988. Her performance was widely appreciated and her song Ek Do Teen went on to become one of the most popular songs in the history of Indian cinema. After Tezaab, Madhuri Dixit became Hindi cinema’s leading actresses and was also validated for several of her other performances, her beauty, and her accomplished dancing.
Madhuri went on to deliver hits like Dil in 1990, Saajan in 1991, Beta in 1992, Khalnayak in 1993, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! in 1994 and Raja in 1995. After a relatively low phase, she reinvented herself with the romance Dil To Pagal Hai alongside Shahrukh Khan in 1997 and subsequently received critical acclaim for her work in movies like Mrityudand in 1997, Pukar in 2000, Lajja in 2001 and Devdas in 2002. After Devdas, Madhuri Dixit took a break from her career and concentrated on her family. She made a comeback with the musical Aaja Nachle in 2007.
As of 2013 Dixit has won four Filmfare Awards, for Best Actress for her role in movies like Dil in 1991, Beta in 1993, Hum Aapke Kaun Hai..! in 1995 and Dil Toh Pagal Hai in 1998. She won one Filmfare for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Devdas. Madhuri Dixit holds the record for the highest number of Best Actress nominations at Filmfare i.e., 13. In 2008, she was honoured with Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian by the Government of India.
Madhuri Dixit is married to Dr. Shriram Chandra Nene and has two sons, Arin & Raayan
