Kareena Kapoor was born 21 September 1980 is also known as Bebo. Born to Bollywood superstars Randhir Kapoor and Babita, she is the younger sister Bollywood actress Karishma Kapoor and wife of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.
Kareena Kapoor made her debut as an actor with the movie Refugee in 2000. The movie was a moderate box-office success in India but Kareena won her first Filmfare award for the Best Female Debut. She was later seen opposite Tusshar Kapoor in Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. The movie was a box office success. Her next project was Subhash Ghai’s family drama Yaadein. Later that year she was cast as the female lead in the period epic Asoka. Her final release of 2001, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, earned her a nomination in the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress category. Her portrayal of a prostitute in Chameli earned her the Filmfare Special Performance Award.
After movies like Yuva, Dev, Fida, Aitraaz, Hulchul, Bewafaa and Kyun ki, Kareena next portrayed the character of Desdemona in Omkara, the Hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Othello. Her performance won her critical acclaim and her role in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met got her her first Filmfare award in the Best Actress category. Her most anticipated movie of all time was Tashan, but failed miserably at the box office. She later acted in comedy movies like Golmaal Returns and Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. Her first release of 2011, Bodyguard opposite Salman Khan was a huge success at the box office. In 2012 Kareena acted in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, a drama revolving around the Bollywood film industry followed by Talaash, where she starred opposite Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji. Following the release of Heroine, she married her long time boyfriend and actor Saif Ali Khan. The wedding was described as the social event of the year by The Wall Street Journal.
In addition to acting Kareena Kapoor is known for her fashion statements and assertive nature. In association with retail chain Globus she has also started her own clothing line.
