Karan Johar was born on 25 May 1972 in Mumbai to Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. He is a film director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer and a television host. He is also the head of the production company Dharma Productions.
Karan Johar made his debut in Bollywood as an actor in 1995 with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. He had also assisted Aditya Chopra in writing the screenplay. He made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. The movie was a commercial and critical success and won a National Award and eight Filmfare Awards. His next movie was a family drama, Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham in 2001 which won five Filmfare Awards. Karan changed his style in 2010 with My Name is Khan and delivered a movie about the stereotypical response to the name ‘Khan’. The movie was critically acclaimed and a huge blockbuster.
Karan Johar also produced movies like Wake Up Sid!, Kurbaan, We Are Family, I Hate Luv Stories and Agneepath. Karan Johar hosted a TV series, Koffee with Karan on Star World and Lift Karade on Sony TV. He has also selected costumes for Shahrukh for movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Duplicate, Mohabbatein, Mai Hoon Na, Veer-Zaara and Om Shanti Om.
