Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut was born on 20 March 1987 in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her father Amardeep is a businessman and her mother Asha is a school teacher. She has an elder sister, Rangoli and younger brother Akshit. She quit college and moved to Delhi to join Elite Modelling Agency in 2003.

Kangana started her career with theater and joined the Asmita Theatre Group and acted in many plays with them. Her first play was Girish Karnad’s Taledande. She later joined Asha Chandra’s course in 2004 get ready to perform in front of the camera. She later moved to Mumbai to try her luck with movies and in 2005 she was offered the lead role for Gangster by Anurag Basu while she was sitting in a café with her friends. The movie released in 2006 and was a critical and commercial success.

Her performance in Gangster was widely appreciated and from there in, there was no looking back for Kangna. She was next seen in Anurag Basu’s Life In A.. Metro in 2007 and her performance again earned her praise from the critics. It was only after her role in Fashion as a supermodel that Kangna got her first National Award for Best Supporting Actress and also her Filmfare as Best Supporting Actress.

Kangna later did movies like Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Kites, Once Upon a Time In Mumbai, Tanu Weds Manu, Knock Out and No Problem. These movies helped Kangna make her mark in Bollywood as a capable but eccentric actress.
