Race 2

Race 2 hit the screens with huge hype behind it due to its prequel’s splendid success. It received mixed responses from critics and fans where lot of them did not felt it as good as the 1st installment, but nonetheless Race-2 opened with mammoth collections and grossed 105 crores including international market and was declared a super-hit.

Special-26

Special-26 was released with minimal expectations after Akshay Kumar faced debacle in the form of “Joker”. The movie was directed by neeraj Pandey who delivered an off beat movie like “A Wednesday” in the past. Even the promos of the movie suggested that movie is not a routine ‘masala’ flick and as a result Special 26 opened with normal collections, but it picked up after good reviews and mouth of word. It then went on to gross over 70 crores and became a super-hit.

ABCD

ABCD was pleasant surprise in the B-town, it broke the stereotype of dance concentric movies not working in Bollywood and became an instant hit. It opened to relatively less crowds, but then it picked up later after excellent response from the audience, critics and grossed 45 crores. Considering its low budget in the making the movie can be termed as Blockbuster.

Matru Ki Bijili Ka Mandola

Starring Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma and Pankaj Kapoor in the lead roles, directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, MKBKM was an experimental fare for Vishal Bharadwaj who normally directs intense emotional dramas. But however movie opened with good collections after its good music, exciting promos and then it received decent response from the crowd and went on to collect 39 crores becoming a super-hit.

Kai Po Che

Kai Po che was a movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s famous novel “Three Mistakes of My Life”. The initial promos of the movie were very appealing and upon the release it was praised by lot of critics and celebrities which gave Kai Po che very good start. It’s collections were very sturdy for the 1st 3 weeks in multiplexes as a result it grossed over 45 crores despite of new star cast leaving every one shell shocked.

The only movie that could manage to join the 100 crore club is Race -2 but in terms of profits generated Race-2 did not do much justice to the distributors. Other movies that made some good money are Akshay Kumar’s “Special 26” which managed to collect around 70 crores but not much profits, Remo De Souza’s dance flick “ABCD” grossed 40 crores which is a great achievement, “Kai po Che” which had new comers all over it did a business of 50 crore.

On the flipside, movies like “Murder-3″, “Jolly LLB”, “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns” could generate positives response from the audiences and critics but did average business without even crossing 20 crore mark. Movies like “Zila Ghaziabad”, “Vishwaroop” have bombed at the box-office and gave tears to the distributors.

However, quarter 2 looks pretty good for the Bollywood considering the high profile movies that are releasing with “Himmatwala” being the 1st movie which is all set to release on 29th of march and movies like “Ek Thi Daayan”, “Shootout at Wadala”, “Ganchakkar”, “Zanjeer”, “Jeh jawani Hai Deewani”, “Yamla Pagla Deewana -2″ are lined up for the release.

Irrfan Khan’s variety of roles and ability to project himself in front of the camera with such ease has seemingly impressed Sushant. A source close to the actor says,”Sushant feels that Irrfan is one of the finest actors in the industry and that he can learn a lot from him about acting and projecting yourself in front of the camera. He has watched many of Irrfan’s films and believes that he has a strong screen presence —
something he would like to achieve too.”

The Kai Po Che! actor is full of praise for the actor and says,”He is one of the finest actors I have seen. He inspires me and I learn so much just by observing his performances. He is truly magical.”

However, the praise is not one sided. Irrfan Khan was generous in his praise for Sushant and he mentioned,”Sushant has a unique mix of charm, intensity and talent.”

The success of Kai Po Che! has turned the cards for this actor as he has bagged roles in a few noteworthy productions. He’s currently juggling shoots for Rajkumar Hirani’s P.K., which stars Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma and Sanjay Dutt, with a Yash Raj Film directed by Maneesh Sharma. In the latter, he’s paired with Parineeti Chopra.

While there is a buzz that he has rejected an offer to work with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, his spokesperson refuted such rumours and said,”So far, he has not been contacted by either. They are huge names in the industry, so if he was approached, why would he decline such good offers?”. True!

It is interesting to see that Bollywood is welcoming young talent with open hands while the audience are accepting the change too. Since the past year, several new faces have emerged and have successfully made a mark as well! We wish Sushant Singh Rajput has a flourishing career ahead!

Sources tell us that the actor has signed a film with the makers of Kai Po Che!. Manish Hariprasad,Creative Director, Studios, Disney UTVconfirmed the news and said,”We are very happy to sign him, as we know that this is a talent that will go far.”

“Seeing Kai Po Che!, one could only wonder at the effortless portrayal of one of the most difficult characters of the movie. However, only if you have seen his dedication on the sets, would you know how it looks so effortless,”he added.

The company’s head honchos have been discussing scripts with the actor and it looks like something will be finalized soon.

If grapevine is to be believed, the film will be in the romantic comedy genre. We hear that it is his boy-next-door looks that got him to be considered for the role.

Even recently, there were talks going around that the actor has been signed by David Dhawan for a project co-starring Varun Dhawan. However, Amit denied any knowledge about the two projects.

The actor recently had a taste of popularity when he was invited by a women’s college to be part of their festival.

According to few sources, “He seems to be doing very well right now. He has inked a deal with Karan Johar’s production house. When the paperwork is done, Sushant and the production house will make their announcements.”

As of now, Sushant Singh Rajput has been shooting in Jaipur for an untitled venture, directed by Maneesh Sharma of Band Bajaa Baraat fame. Moreover, he also has another film with UTV Motion Pictures. With all the new developments, looks like the actor is going places.

He mentions that he was selected only after casting director Mukesh Chhabra came into the picture.

“Many people wouldn’t know that earlier when it (the film) was with Excel Entertainment, there was another casting director and I had auditioned for the role of Govind and I was rejected,” says the actor.

“After that when Mukesh bhai came on board, a list was given to him that these people have auditioned and they are not to be called, my name was also there in it,” added the actor who debuted with the film Love, Sex aur Dhoka.

“But hats off to him, he believed that I could play Govind and he called me and told me, ‘You are my Govind, you will play it.’ That really helped me, that boosted my confidence,” he also said.

Actor Amit Sadh, who portrays an important role in the film, was also all praise for the process of casting.

“The best thing about films today, other than the fact that we are giving great cinema, is that a (proper) process of casting has started. For outsiders who come from different cities, it is tough as they don’t know where to go, whom to meet. So I think these are great times,” said Amit Sadh.

Kai Po Che! which released last month has received positive reviews from all sides. The movie which had a humble opening started attracting more and more crowds as the word on the film got out.

Said the the 40-year-old, “It is a fantastic film. I really hope that this film does well because such films should do well. It is a wonderfully performed film by all the actors. The performances are such that they touch your heart.”

“They (cast) are very-very endearing. It doesn’t look like it is their first film. I am very, very proud of this film, Abhishek and the entire team. I think all the actors will go very very far because they all are absolutely brilliant,” he added.

‘Kai Po Che!’ is based on Chetan Bhagat’s much popular novel ’3 Mistakes of My Life’. The film is already recieving rave reviews from the industry biggies.

The film features Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav, while Amrita Puri plays the female lead. Kai Po Che hits theaters this Friday.

Chetan Bhagat, a popular author whose books have  inspired many film makers to make films says the real reason behind him being associated with movies is that he wants to reach out to more people and throughout masses and he feels that only movies can give him that kind of reach.

“People say I am a popular author, but I am not really reaching the farmers of the country through my books. I want to explore rural India and connect to them. I wanted to bring my writing closer to them, that’s why I’ve also associated myself with films. They are more accessible to the masses,” says Chetan.

Chetan’s three novels have been made into movies and his third novel “3 mistakes of my life” ‘s movie adaptation “Kai Po Che” is releasing this friday with high expectations. Other novels being “One Night @ call center” which was made into Hello and “5 point someone” which was made into “3 idiots” which is still the highest grossing Bollywood movie ever.

In an attempt to reach out to masses, Chetan has now come on board for Ford India and National Geographical Channel’s upcoming show “MyEndeavour alterrain”. The show will document road journeys of five celebrities through different terrains. He will be driving through Gujrat from Ahmedabad to Junagarh.

“That (comparisons) will happen. (The film) ’3 Idiots’ was also made (based) on a book… But if you watch ’3 Idiots’ and ‘Kai Po Che!’ together, you will not feel that one is lower than the other. Both are equal. I would say ‘Kai Po Che!’ has been made as well as ’3 Idiots’,” Chetan Bhagat said here Thursday in an interview.

The plot of Kai Po Che! is inspired from Bhagat’s ‘The 3 Mistakes of my Life’ while Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots was is the big screen adaptation of his bestseller Five Point Someone.

Kai Po Che!, recently premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film was welcomed warmly and that audiences had responded very well to it.

“I am more than satisfied, I am very happy. Forget Indians, you can show it to anyone, it is of such high standards. It really touches you, very emotional and there would be hardly anyone who would not be touched by the film,” Bhagat said.

“Even European audiences, who don’t know about Gujarat or India, Hindu religion or Muslims, they were so moved by it and that too watching it with subtitles. I think it is going to be something else here,” he added.

Kai Po Che!, releasing Feb 22, features Rajkumar Yadav, Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Amrita Puri.
