Hema Malini

Hema Malini was born on 16 October 1948 in Ammankudi, Tamil Nadu. She is an accomplished actress, director and producer, Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer and a politician.

She was educated at Andhra Mahila Sabha in Chennai. But later dropped out of school when she was offered a acting role. Hema Malini was never interested in education but always loved history as a subject. Her debut in Bollywood was opposite Raj Kapoor in his film Sapno Ka Saudagar in 1968 after which she was promoted as the Dream Girl of Bollywood. Her first blockbuster was Johnny Mera Naam in 1970 where she was cast in a pivotal role. She went on do more challenging and defining roles which the other actresses refused to do and within four years of making her debut, she established herself as one of the leading actresses in Bollywood. Hema Malini is one of those yesteryear actresses who will always be remembered for her glamour, style, and accomplished classical dancing.

Hema fell in love with her co-star Dharmendra during the filming of Sholay and they later got married in 1980 but before they married, they both converted to Islam because Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra’s first wife refused to divorce him. Hema Malini and Dharmendra were paired together after marriage in movies Alibaba Aur 40 Chor, Baghavat, Samraat and Razia Sultan. After several years of hiatus, Hema Malini made a comeback with Baghban in 2003 which won her a nomination at the Filmfare for best actress

In February 2004, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party officially and in March 2010, she was made general secretary of the party. Hema Malini has two daughters with Dharmendra, actress Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
