Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar was born on 9 January 1974 in Mumbai. He was born to screen writers Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. His parents later got divorced and Javed Akhtar married Shabana Azmi.

Farhan started working at an early age of 17. He worked as an apprentice for Yash Johar and helped him with the cinematography and direction of Lamhe. Farhan made his debut as a director 10 years later at the age of 27. He directed and produced Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. His next movie was Lakshya in 2004 which again earned him accolades. He next ventured into song writing and wrote the lyrics for Bride and Prejudice in 2004 and then worked on remaking cult classic, Don starring Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra.

He made his debut as a singer and actor in Rock On! in 2008. Though the movie did not perform well at the box office it was however acclaimed critically. Farhan next appeared in Karthik Calling Karthik, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara as an actor.

Apart from being an actor, singer, producer, director and lyricist he was also on the panel of judges for the Femina Miss India beauty pageant in 2002 and for Nach Baliye, a dance-reality show in 2005. He also hosted Oye! It’s Friday!

Farhan Akhtar launched a social campaign, MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) in August 2012.
