Family can’t wait to see Dhanush speak in Hindi

Southern star Dhanush makes his Bollywood debut with “Raanjhanaa” and says his family members, including his father-in-law Rajinikanth, are waiting to see him speak Hindi for the first time when the love saga hits the screen Friday.

“We all are waiting for the release and till now he (Rajinikanth) hasn’t made any comment. I am sure once the film is out, he will have his comments. (His wife) Aishwarya saw the promos and they all are thrilled to see me speaking in Hindi. It is still to sink in for them,” the 29-year-old said here in an interview Sunday.

Dhanush plays Kundan, a guy from Benaras in the Anand L. Rai directed film, who is in love with Sonam Kapoor’s character Zoya since childhood.

Dhanush admits speaking Hindi was the toughest part for him.

“Since I don’t know Hindi, it was very tough for me…I somehow managed with the help of writer Himanshu Sharma and director sir. But when I was dubbing, it was pretty tough to get the diction and the slang of Benaras right. But I had a good team, so I think I pulled it off,” Dhanush said.

Dhanush asks not to compare him to Rajnikanth

Tamil superstar Dhanush who married Rajnikanth’s daughter Aishwarya, says that being the son-in-law of the legendary actor has not really helped his career nor has it affected it.

“Being his son-in-law doesn’t do anything to me actually. I have always done my own work. It (his name) neither helped me nor affected me,” Dhanush said in an interview.

He also says that he should not be compared with his father-in-law as their styles of working differ drastically.
“My choice of films are different. My method of acting is completely different from his. So there is no room for comparison. And comparing a 20-25 films old guy with an icon is absolutely rubbish,” he said.

Dhanush is making his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa, but the actor says he has not discussed about the film with his father-in-law.

“To be very honest he has been very busy with his work while I’ve been with mine. We haven’t spoken about this film yet,” he said, adding he never discusses work with his dad-in-law.

When asked about his wife’s reaction with him doing Hindi cinema, Dhanush said she hasn’t watched it yet but as of now they are pretty much thrilled with the fact that he is speaking Hindi.

Dhanush will be seen romancing Sonam Kapoor in Raanjhanaa which also features Abhay Deol, Swara Bhaskar and Suraj Singh.

It is scheduled for a June 21 release.

Rahman infuses spirituality in ‘Raanjhanaa’ music: Sonam Kapoor

Composer A.R. Rahman has cast a magic spell yet again with “Raanjhanaa” songs and the film’s lead actress Sonam Kapoor says the music maestro has infused spirituality into the film’s music with the track “Tum tak”.

“‘Tum tak’ is like a spiritual bhajan. The spirituality that comes through is something that only Rahman sir is capable of doing in this day and age,” the 28-year-old said here during the making of the song.

It seems “Raanjhanaa” team can’t stop raving about the composer’s work in the movie.

Southern star Dhanush, who plays the male lead, too praised the composition of the Oscar-winning music director saying: “It is rooted, you can sense and feel the culture in the song.”

A romantic tale, “Raanjhanaa” has been directed by Anand L. Rai who said: “Actually, Rahman sir has put ‘the raanjhanaa’ factor completely in ‘Tum tak’.” (Rahman sir ne pure ka pura raanjhanaa utha kar ‘Tum Tak’ mein daal diya hai).

Coming out June 21, “Raanjhanaa” also stars Abhay Deol and Swara Bhaskar.

Patna theatre opening postponed for ‘Raanjhanaa’

In the cut-throat world of film exhibition, it is very rare for any theatre owner to move away for emotional reasons. But this is what happened when in Patna, the single theatre Mona was converted into twin-theatre multiplex this year. The opening of the new theatre was postponed from May 31 to June 21 just to accommodate “Raanjhanaa”.

“We were supposed to open the new theater with ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. But we decided to postpone our opening by some weeks to open with ‘Raanjhanaa’, as it seems like the kind of film that is destined to create history,” said distribitor-exhibitor Arvind Sharma.

The film’s director Anand L. Rai is kicked by the faith shown in his film.

“I don’t know what it is. But people are displaying a lot of optimism about the film. It could be the contrasting chemistry between Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor. Such adoration and devotion in Dhanush’s eyes for Sonam were last seen in Sunil Dutt sahab’s eyes each time he looked at Nutanji in ‘Milan’. And A.R. Rahman has never sounded more North Indian. It seems as if his soul has entered Varanasi,” said Rai.
