Dhanush was born on 28 July 1983 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Born as Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja, he is the son of Tamil movie director Kasthuri Raja and son in law of Tamil Super star Rajnikanth.
Dhanush made his debut with Tamil movie, Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by his father, Kasthuri Raja. The movie was a blockbuster but his major breakthrough was Kadhal Kondein in 2009. Dhanush shot to fame with his song Why This Kolaveri Di?, which went viral within few hours of upload. As of 2013, Dhanush has appeared in over 23 Tamil movies and is filming for his Bollywood debut Raanjhnaa.
Dhanush is married to Aishwarya Rajnikanth and they have two sons together, Yatra and Linga.
