David Dhawan was borm on 16 August 1960 in Jalandhar, Punjab. After studying at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, he started his career as an editor in Bollywood and made his directorial debut with Aandhiyan in 1989. David Dhawan is known for his movies with Govinda. His biggest success of all time is Aankhen in 1993 starring Chunkey Pandey and Govinda. After the success of Aankhen, the duo delivered hits like Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Jodi No. 1, Bade Miya Chote Miya, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Saajan Chale Sasural and Deewana Mastana. David Dhawan later joined hands with Salman Khan and the duo delivered hits like Judwaa, Biwi No. 1, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge. In 2007 David Dhawan along with Govinda and Salman Khan released Partner, which was a commercial and critical success.
David Dhawan is married to Karuna Dhawan and they have two sons, director Rohit Dhawan and actor Varun Dhawan.
