Its just been the first week of new year, and Bollywood is out with awarding the best talents and films of 2010. The 17th annual Star Screen Awards was a fun filled and a gala event with stars like Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu giving an awesome performance on stage. The anchoring by Shahrukh Khan teamed with Shahid Kapoor stole the show.

Udaan, a Vikramditya Motwane’s small-budget film, won the Best Film trophy. Motwane also won the Best Director award. Salman Khan grabbed the trophy for best actor (Male) for Dabangg, while SRK won the Best Actor by Popular Choice (Male) award for his performance in My Name Is Khan.

Vidya Balan undoubtedly won the Best Actor (Female) for her performance in Ishqiya, and Katrina Kaif won the Best Actor Popular Choice (Female) for her role in Raajneeti. The award for the best performer of the year went to Ajay Devgan, who starred in three hit films last year.

And as expected, Ranveer Singh, of Band Baaja Baaraat fame won the Most Promising Newcomer (Male) award and Sonakshi Sinha was named the best debutante for Dabangg.

Vidya Balan shed kilos for Dirty Pictures….

Vidya Balan will shed a few more kilos for her role as South siren Silk Smitha in Balaji’s Dirty Pictures. After the release of No One Killed Jessica, the actress will devote all her time to get in shape for the role.

According to a source, “She will work out and lose more weight for the role. The brief is not to look lean and skinny, but curvy.

Silk Smitha was famous for her curves and Vidya wants to ape that look. However, she feels that it’s necessary for her to lose some more weight before getting into the skin of the character.

Her portrayal of Smitha won’t be through daring outfits but the body language and dance numbers.”

In fact, Dirty Pictures director Milan Luthria has asked his leading lady to take three weeks off to rehearse for the songs.

“She will be working with two choreographers one from the south who will teach her the steps Smitha for famous for.

Another will be from Mumbai. The songs won’t be cheap or vulgar but choreographed in an aesthetic way.”

Neither producer Ekta Kapoor nor her director want to sensationalise Smitha’s story. “They are keen to portray her story with lot of respect and dignity.

Even though Silk Smitha is iconic because of her seductive numbers, Vidya has made it clear she won’t be doing a lot of skin show in the film.”

Vidya Balan opens up about the raunchy photoshoot, “I think what we shot for the cover was really very interesting especially where we used sheets and all and it’s just that there is a great sensuality to it. I always think that minimal make-up and no fuss hair takes away from everything and it’s all about the eyes,” she says.

Well with all the love handles and extra flab she likes to flaunt it was a good decision to cover up her body with a white bedsheet.

What was surprising was that they were very open about their relationship. Their body language said it all. When Shahid was not facing the camera, he spent all his time with Sania. Sania spent a lot of time with Shahid in his vanity van.”

“Sania was cheering Shahid all the time. What raised more eyebrows was Sani’s interest in Shahid’s scenes. She made it a point to check out all the scenes with him on the monitor.”

Meanwhile Shahid Kapoor is quite open about his relationship with Sania Mirza and has branded co-star Vidya Balan ‘a good friend’.

Shahid says, “Sania is my favorite tennis player. I have met her and talked to her. I have nothing to hide about my relationship with her. She can be as good a friend as many other actresses in the film industry. What else can I say?”
