Rang De Basanti is the best Indian film according to Australians!

Oscar or no Oscar, apni Rang De Basanti has already started to collect international awards!!! Though not a big deal when it was competing only with fellow Bollywood movies, RDB managed to beat the likes of ‘Omkara’, ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, ‘Being Cyrus’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, ‘Fanaa’ etc etc….. Phew! That was ONE looooong list!!!

4

It was the Indian Film Festival, held at Sydney, Australia that honored RDB with the award and made Rakeysh Mehra, the director, proud… what was heartening to see is that there was more of the Australian audience who flocked to watch Bollywood in its glory…

The audiences, though couldn’t make much of the ‘Bhen di taki’ type dialogues, but surely clapped and applauded every comic sequence of the movie (surprising, ain’t it?)

So in short… RDB is all set to rock the world!!!!!!

ShahRukh Khan wants masala to continue in Bollywood…

Even after 4 weeks of their films release and it attaining stupendous amount of success internationally, the press conference of Karan Johar, ShahRukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan was not very well attended prior to the screening of ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ in the 31st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)!shahrukh-khan-smile.jpg

The few Indian journos, who attended their 9:30 A.M. conference, put up their questions and I must say that SRK and KJ fielded them well… The three of them unanimously put pressure on screening Bollywood films in international film festivals consistently… another wonderful statement that ShahRukh made was that Indian films should not let go of it’s masala image and song n dance routines…

So Mr. Khan, you’ve got your basics aright huh ;)

How did Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna Fare at the box office…

sharukh-kank.jpgHey guys… well my blog starts with a BIG THANXXX to all you people for your comments and feedback on my ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ review and bole to here’s a ‘jaadu ki jhappi’ from my side to every one :) Maya had asked us to provide her with the statistics of ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ and co incidentally, its one thing that’s been raking my interest from quite a few days now…

rani-abishek-kank.jpgThough the film’s success in India is negligible (c’mon now, it wasn’t made for local audiences any way), it did have a phenomenal opening overseas, where there are more ShahRukh Khan fans than India :P

Its opening figures grossed up to $1,351,786 – now it’s over $1.3 Million for those who are poor at numbers :D though this Karan Johar venture took a beating at home, it’s surely flourishing overseas. With a total collection of over $3 Million (it was $2,872,098 last week) till date, it is branded as an international blockbuster hit without a shadow of a doubt :)

Bachchan Sr. makes my dad mutter ……..

Okay so all of us had our share of chuckles on Preity Zinta’s extra flab and the disastrousamitabhbachchan.jpg outfit she had adorned in the song… but she did rock n roll well, didn’t she??? Talking of the ‘Rock and Roll Soniye’ song, it surely did compel me to tap my feet throughout … And my dad, every time he sees the song mutters is umar me bhi bete se achha naacha hai buddha!!!
Well if you call this praise, then the ‘dude’ deserves every bit of it – and much more! Seriously guys, having crossed the age of 60 and some near to death injuries and experiences, he’s indeed going strong… much stronger than several youngsters in Bollywood (including Abhishekh)! In short, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan is the Hindi Film Industry’s sab se jawaan buddha :P What say???

Preity Zinta’s extra ‘curves’

preity.jpgOki guys I’m sure all of you loved watching Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and came out smiling despite so much crying in the over 3 hrs flick (man! I actually had an argument with my girlfriend about the length of the flick :P )… I actually checked it out once again to observe it all the more and surely did hit upon a couple of things which I’m sure you intelligent people would’ve noticed in the first time itself…
preity-kank.jpg One of them being Priety’s flab … Gosh! She was looking so damn FAT – especially in the ‘rock n roll’ song! While the father-son duo of Amitabh and Abhishekh Bacchan literally rocked and rolled in the racy number (and Rani sulked a lil too much :P ), apni Preity was flaunting a whole lot of extra ‘curves’ in that golden attire of hers… No wonder even SRK wasn’t particularly happy with her in the movie :D … Wonder what his son Aryan might say about his favorite “Aunty” on this!!!

The man who dares…

Now this is what we call breaking news!!! Someone had the taste and the courage to stage a walk out of an exclusive premiere of the current chartbuster “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna”. Kabhi-Alvida-Na-Kehna-011.gifIf that was not enough, he did this especially because he thought the rest of the over three hour long movie would hurt the sentiments of his young son! Before you start scratching your heads and trying to figure out whom we’re referring to, let us tell you it was none other than ShahRukh Khan himself!!!
The 40+ star had organized an exclusive premiere of the movie but couldn’t allow his little son Aryan to see the second half of the film because he thought it would hurt his sentiments… This is because Jr. Khan adores Preity aunty and wouldn’t like it one bit if he saw his own dad leaving his favorite aunty for Rani aunty… Well, kudos to king Khan for being the sensitive and understanding dad he is. And as for Preity and Rani, they would just screech out – “Kabhi Aunty Na Kehna :P

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – we sum it up for you!

kabhi alvida na kehna shahrukh khan abhishek Bacchan rani mukherji preity zinta

So, it’s a big film… Big budget, a loong looong time to be made, an even longer star cast and above all – A HUGE star back up! You got that right people, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna hit theatres this 11th and has driven straight into our hearts right from the first show… First things first, the expectations that everyone has while buying a ticket to a Dharma production – especially when it’s directed by the maestro himself!!!

Karan Johar has given two hits back to back as a director and everyone in the industry would have his/her eyes on this wiz kid to churn out another blockbuster and complete his hat-trick. And at such a situation, what does Johar jr. do? He goes hysterical and takes a big risk at such a crucial point of his career. Instead of the tried and tested united family or puppy love, which with the treatment of Karan Johar gives a guarantee of a super hit, he narrates a tale on infidelity, hatred and broken relationships!!!

What does he churn out anyways? A blockbuster again, or a first box office dud? Well that’s for time to tell, but a few things are confirmed

• Karan Johar is one of the best narrators in the industry today.
• ShahRukh Khan is not called King Khan for nothing.
• Hugh Heffner, watch out for Amitabh Bacchan’s kinky one liners to beat yours.
• Abhishekh Bacchan can act (especially with daddy around ;) )
• Rani Mukherjee acts and looks better than Priety Zinta any day!
• Above all — Risks (calculated ones) do PAY OFF!!!Kudos to the young mind of the director for trusting his instinct and making a wonder of a film…

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna – Movie Plot

Kabhi Alvida na kehnaAfter ‘kal Ho Na Ho’ and ‘Kaal’, Karan Johar returns with another winner in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

With so much hype happening around the film, the audience’s expectations are high from the year’s biggest film that has a mammoth starcast – Amitabh Bachchan, ShahRukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerjee, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and Kirron Kher.

The music has been composed by shanker Ehsaan Loy and the lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar. We hope their pairing rocks the charts for several days.

‘Kabhi Alvida…’ centers on the budding romance between Dev (Shahrukh) and Maya(Rani), who are both married to different people , but stuck up in unhappy marriages. Shahrukh is married to Preity Zinta, whereas Rani is married to Abhishek . But their marriages are loveless and unsuccessful( or so,as we are made to believe). SRK plays a father to a 7-year old ( a la kuch kuch hota hai) . Shah Rukh is always angry because he’s got a perpetual limp and he can’t play football and his wife (Preity Zinta) is more successful than him.

khabi alvida na kehana Rani Mukherjee Abhishek The reasons behind Rani’s drift are also somewhat weak, like hubby Abhishek demands something more from her , in bed and in day to day life.

And the two decide to play marriage-counsellors to eachother. They discuss books and techniques to save their marriage , but the two end up having an extra-marital affair themselves. And this results in collision of lives and emotions, affecting everyone involved and changing their lives forever.

Amitabh Bachchan’s character is quite ‘rangeela’ and it has sexual undertones. But the father-son chemistry, between Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek is awesome.

And unlike Karan Johar’s earlier movies, it’s not the audience that sheds tears this time , it is the actors themselves who cry and cry …..

But the film has some good moments too, that are touching , and the film is beautifully shot in the picturesque New York.

The movie is quite long (around 3 hours and 15 mins) and may not hold the audience’s attention for that long .

It remains to be seen whether Karan Johar’s ‘hatke’ movie impresses the orthodox Indian audience, since his earlier movies were family entertainers, Karan has taken a big risk this time by dealing with the subject of infidelity.

The movie is running full houses everywhere due to its huge starcast and Karan Johar label. We hope Karan’s new formula is accepted , otherwise the audience might start saying ALVIDA to him …..

Big B congratulates Karan Johar

Kabhi Alvidaa Na KehnaAfter the first full screening of “Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna” (KANK), the anxious and nervous Karan Johar had an unexpected surprise – he received a bouquet and a letter from none other than Amitabh Bachchan.

The letter, beautifully and lucidly written by Mr.Bachchan, occupies a place of pride in Karan’s office.

“Yes, after seeing the film Kabhi Alvidaa Na KehnaI did send a bouquet and a letter to Karan…. and not just to Karan but also to Shah Rukh (Khan) and Abhishek Bachchan. Why not? Their work is exemplary,” Bachchan confirms.

I think Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna is Karan’s finest work. A difficult and very mature subject – certainly so for Indian audiences – handled and put together with the dexterity of a master. Proving once and for all, that behind Karan’s trendy designer clothes and stubble, there lurks a balanced, sensitive and an extremely intelligent maker”, adds Mr.Bachchan.

Karan is totally touched and overwhelmed by this gesture of Mr.Bachchan. “I was very moved by Amit uncle’s gesture. I’ve always treasured his praise. When Amit uncle says something complimentary you know you’re being complimented by one of the highest authorities on Indian cinema”, he says.

Karan must be getting anxiety pangs, now that the film Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna will hit the theatres on August 11. He must be feeling really nervous and jittery since the verdict will be out in a week’s time.

We wish him all the best !!!

Shahrukh is too sexy to Lust

20060804102247shahrukh.jpg“I’m too sexy to lust,” says Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan . “I think people who don’t feel sexy from within are the ones who lust. I genuinely believe that I am a very very sexy guy,” he adds.

Just when ‘Kabhi Alvida Na kehna‘ is ready for release, Shahrukh is busy giving interviews to television channels and newspapers . His catchy one-liners are being discussed everywhere.

Shahrukh disagrees that romance has gone out of cinema. According to him, the romance shall never fade away. “Romance is eternal, romantic heroes are not. That may change but romance will work,” says SRK.

And what about the alleged animosity between him and Amitabh Bachchan and the Chopras? “This fued with the Bachchans or Chopras is old news that has been done to death. So, what’s new? “I think maybe they should start talking about me and Abhishek having an affair. That would be more interesting,” says King Khan.

Phew ! What a statement !!!
