Anil Kapoor

Anil Kapoor was born 24 December 1959. Along with his career as an actor in Bollywood, Anil Kapoor is also a movie producer. Over the span of 30 years, Anil Kapoor appeared in over 110 movies.

Making his debut with Umesh Mehra’s Hamare Tumhare in 1979 in a supporting role, Anil Kapoor got his major break as a lead actor in 1983 with Woh Saat Din. Before Woh Saath Din, Anil did minor roles in movies such as Hum Paanch in 1980 and Shakti in 1982. After the success of Woh Saath Din, Anil Kapoor later appeared in Yash Chopra’s drama Mashaal in 1984 as a street smart tapori, which got him his first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Anil Kapoor’s first commercial success was Meri Jung in 1985 where he portrayed the character of a young angry lawyer, fighting for justice. This portrayal gave him the much needed impression of a mature actor and he was given the green signal by the audience and critics. He also got his first Filmfare in the Best Actor category for Meri Jung. There after he appeared in a lot of movies, playing different characters like that of a funny tapori in Karma in 1986, and in the same year he also played the role of a casual and cheerful playboy in Jaanbaaz along with Feroz Khan. His performance in Lamhe opposite Sridevi got him critical acclaim. Though the movie failed in India, it was a superhit overseas.

In 2008, Anil’s character in Race, Inspector Robert D’Costa got his image a complete makeover and the audience loved him. Movies like Tashan in 2008 and No Problem in 2010 got him back to fame. He also starred in Hollywood ventures like Slumdog Millionaire and did a cameo in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. He also starred in the 8th season of 24, an American TV series where he plays Omar Hassan, President of the fictional Islamic Republic of Kamistan.

Anil Kapoor started his career as a producer with Badhaai Ho Badhaai in 2002. And as of 2013 he has produced 6 movies. His movie, Gandhi, My Father was critically acclaimed and was a commercial success.

Anil Kapoor is married to Sunita Kapoor and has three children. Actress Sonam Kapoor, Producer Rhea Kapoor and son Harshvardan
