Many independent women suffer physical and emotional abuse in a relationship and actress-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt says there is no simple answer to it, but your silence the first time sets the tone and tenor for your relationship, while Gul Panag feels they tolerate abuse because of emotional vulnerability.

Here is what Bollywood women have to say on the issue:

Pooja Bhatt: There is no simple answer to such a complicated question. I’ve been there myself. One thing that I was wise enough to know is that you don’t have to wait for someone to treat you badly repeatedly. If you allow them to get away with it once, you are telling them they can get away with it every time. Your silence the first time (when physically abused) sets the tone and tenor for your relationship in the future. Abuse is not just physical. Some women spend years with men who don’t strike them but break their spirit every day. Remember, if you endure abuse the first time, you are a victim. If you let anyone do that repeatedly, then you are accomplice.

Veena Malik: Yes, I suffered an abusive relationship. I had an abusive relationship with Muhammad Asif… I have been very loyal and honest with him. My world was just work and him. He’d repeatedly humiliate me in front of his friends. He used to say, ‘See the most beautiful girl mere isharon pay rehti hai’. He used to get violent if I did not prepare food on time.

I think girls get into abusive relationships because to some extent they like bad boys. They want to change them but instead they are drawn into the dark, desperate personality of the man they think they can mend. I confess abusive relationships give a woman an extreme high even if they cause their self-esteem to fall extremely low. Also, women feel that bad boys will protect them from the outside world.

Amrita Rao: I don’t believe in generalizing the gender issue. However, even the most intelligent girl can lose her mind to her heart if she encourages and prolongs a wrong relationship. Any sensible girl must evaluate and analyse at the initial stages of a relationship whether she is getting respect from her partner or not. No relationship of unequal feelings can work. Any partner who makes you feel constantly small and guilty is not worthy of you. Learn to command respect at the start of a relationship. Or you will never get it.

Gul Panag: I suppose successful women tolerate abuse because of their emotional vulnerability. The pressures of everyday life make them hold on to what they think are emotional anchors.I would never tolerate an abusive relationship.

Divya Dutta: When you are putting up a brave front in an abusive relationship, somewhere you do become unreasonably vulnerable. Women in such relationships are often unable to leave and often end up taking the blame for the abusive partner’s behaviour. Speaking for myself, I’d rather be single than in an abusive relationship.

Celina Jaitley: I’ve often wondered why women tolerate abusive relationships. Such men take advantage of the vulnerability of women who crave for a home, family and other domestic bliss. No matter how successful or independent they are, women become victims of their own idea of a perfect fairytale life while men often become abusive to overcome their own insecurities.

Tapsee Pannu: We women are very strong outside. But when someone shows even a little bit of affection, care and love, we melt and go out of our way to give abundant love. But when there is abuse, women in the limelight don’t want their plight to be exposed. They have no option but to let the torture continue rather than make a public tamasha of their lives. Sadly, it’s always the women who bears the brunt.

Ayesha Shroff: Unfortunately, women do a lot for and in love. Love is an emotion that over-rides logic and good sense.

Tannistha Chatterjee: Fortunately, I’ve always been treated well by my men. It all depends on the men one chooses.

Prakash Jha will team up with five music composers for his political drama “Satyagraha”, a first for the filmmaker.

“The idea is to have an ensemble music album for ‘Satyagraha’. Prakashji is roping in celebrated musicians and composers to collaborate for a youthful album for the film. As of now Salim-Sulaiman and Indian Ocean have been signed on. There will be three other composers,” a source close to the team told IANS.

Elaborating on the kind of songs, the source said: “While some of them will be youth anthems, some will be romantic songs, and some will be peppy situational songs. Prasoon Joshi is also teaming up with Prakash Jha for the first time for the youth anthem.”

“Satyagraha” features Amitabh Bachchan, whose characters is modelled on activist Anna Hazare. Big B is joined by the likes of Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao in the cast.

It’s not always necessary that only love marriages are successful. Sometimes, In fact most of the times, arranged marriages have greater success rate. Marrying the person you already know is very romantic. But there is something very special about getting to know a person after marriage. Here are 5 such Bollywood celebrations from the Hindi cinema.

Namastey London

This film rightly proves love has no language. Despite different cultural backgrounds, lifestyles and geographies, Akshay Kumar’s love for the firangi Kats increases and only increases. Katrina, the videsi babe that she is, under parental pressure, tricks Akki, the gaown ka chora into marriage. While the wedding took place in India, in a village in Punjab, Katrina’s heart was in London. It was only with time that the pure relationship between the two gradually developed. The Indian values and ethics are brilliantly showcased in the film.

Vivaah

A hesitant Shahid Kapoor gets engaged to a soft spoken and shy Amrita Rao. It is only after their engagement that the two fall in love with each other. The movie portrays family ties and values very beautifully. It is a smooth journey from the time the two are engaged till they enter matrimonial bliss. A true celebration of arranged marriage.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam proved, love, if true, can acquire everything and overpower anything in this universe. Two completely opposite people, Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai get married, with Ash being completely against it. With time, the actress begins to feel Ajay’s true love for her and she too falls in love with him, sacrificing her previous love, Salman Khan.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Thanks to Sooraj Barjatya, a few section of people still believe in arranged marriages. Marriage in this film looked like a grand festival, with pre-wedding celebrations, loads of enjoyment during the wedding and finally, few emotional moments post wedding.Must say, a typical Indian arranged marriage. Hum Aapke Hain Koun is one film that can never be wiped out from our hearts. The movie captured those precious yet simple moments that make live the whole concept of an arranged marriage.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Anushka Sharma, in order to fulfill her dad’s last wish, gets married to Shahrukh Khan. Now Shshrukh, a middle aged man, who cares no more about life but is madly in love with his wife, makes an effort to discover himself, gets an identity and then rekindles the romantic spark in his marriage only to find success. Arrange marriage onec again becomes a celebration.

It has been common news to hear of South Indian potboiler films being remade into Hindi. But in a different scenario, producers from Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam industries are queuing up for the rights to remake director Subhash Kapoor’s recent release Jolly LLB.

“Yes, we have received offers for remakes in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. We are in talks with some producers who want to buy the rights of the film.” The production house also seems to be in two minds about selling the rights to the Tamil remake. “We are into producing Tamil films ourselves, so we’ll have to discuss that further,” said Vijay Singh, chief executive officer at the Fox Star Studios, confirming the news.

However, he is tight-lipped about the producers who have approached them for the remake rights. He said,“The paperwork is yet to be completed so we won’t be able to disclose any names. Rest assured, the transaction will get done this week.”

Jolly LLB is the first full-fledged Hindi production undertaken by Fox. Made in a budget of Rs.13.5 crore, the film is on its way to make profits. Singh said,“We are expecting to bag Rs.31 crore by the end of this week. We are already in a profit making situation.”

Jolly LLB stars Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi in pivotal roles. Amrita Rao is also a part of the film.

Jolly LLB is a satirical comical about the judicial system of our country. Directed by Subhash Kapoor of “Phas gaya re Obama” fame. Movie stars Arshad Warsi in the lead role and Amrita Rao acting opposite to him. Boman Irani is also in the movie. This promising film’s music has been scored by Krsna, who gave some beautiful music in his last movie “Tanu weds Manu”.

Songs :

The album has a total of 5 songs and 3 remixes. The album starts off with Kamal Khan singing a peppy number with “Jhoot Boliya”. This foot tapping punjabi number has all the things that could make it a chart topping number. The remix version is more dance able and it will be very popular in the party circuit. The next song is “Daaru Peeke Nachna”. It has got the same style like ” Saddi Gali” from Tanu weds Manu . Music Director, Krsna knows how to deliver these kind of song to perfection. But with Mika and Shreya Ghoshal as singers, this song falls short of expectations. But the remix version is better when compared to the original one.

Next comes “Ajnabi” , a beautiful slow melody song sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal. The lyrics of the song are beautiful. The song is a love track, with instruments playing in background which gives a soothing effect on ears. This easy on ears song is perfect for a long drive in the car. “Hans ki Chaal” is the next song sung by Kailash Kher. It is satirical song with really innovative writing. The kids in the background complete the whole song. It is a situational number which will gain popularity once the film releases.

Lastly, its return of Bappi Lahiri with his song “L Lag Gaye”. It has got the same flamboyance which all of Bappi lahiri’s songs have. It is a funfilled number describing the struggle. It is sure to entertain the audience. It also has a other version “Law Lag Gaye” which is almost the same.

Last Word :

Overall, the album of Jolly LLB is good. The major plus point in the movie is the lyrics of the songs. The remixes by DJ Preitesh Mehta are good. The songs in the album are situational and will gain popularity once the movie releases. The songs are good but listeners need to give it little time to let the songs to grow on them.

Arshad Warsi says films like Kai Po Che and his upcoming film Jolly LLB. open doors for reluctant filmmakers who believe in creating such cinema.

Says the 44-year-old, “When people accept such films, it opens doors for good cinema. There are a lot of good filmmakers who cannot make their films because they are into this kind of cinema.” The actors was on the sets of TV show “Safar Filmy Comedy Ka”, where he was present to promote Jolly LLB.

“When films like ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Barfi!’ work and if ‘Jolly LLB’ also works, a lot of those writers, who write such movies will be encouraged to come forward. This is good cinema and it should be made,” he added.

Jolly LLB is a social satire on the law system of India. Arshad plays a lawyer in the film.

It is learnt that Shahrukh Khan was approached to play Arshad Warsi’s role. But later, the director returned to Arshad with the script.

“Subhash had thought about this long time back and he wanted to cast me in it even then. But I couldn’t meet him because of some problem due to my secretary and then he went to Shah Rukh. But there was some date issue and he came back to me, I heard the story, loved it and said yes,” Arshad said.

Jolly LLB, releasing March 15, also features Boman Irani and Amrita Rao.

Arshad Warsi is busy promoting his new film “Jolly L.L.B.” which is releasing in March, is a happy man these days. On one hand he is shooting for a sequel to his super hit film Dedh Ishqiya, for which he is going to Lucknow, He was quoted saying”I will leave for Lucknow in the next two days to start the shooting for ‘Dedh Ishqiya’. It is a 40-day schedule and I am very excited about this film. It’s a great script and a wonderful story”.

On other hand he is promoting his upcoming release “Jolly L.L.B.” , which has already created a buzz as the movie apparently is a mockery on our judicial system. It is a satirical comedy drama film which also stars Amrita Rao and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

They were reports surrounding that this film was inspired by a real life incident. Recently the director of the film, Shubhash Kapoor says, “Yes, it is true that I was inspired. I found it extremely funny when I came across the news report. When I read about this news in 2008, I found it to be extremely funny. In the opening sequence of our film, we introduce Arshad (as Jolly), a lawyer defending a boy in the court of law. It is part of a fun sequence.”

Looking at the kind of films that Arshad is doing, it seems that variety seems to be the spice of his life.

Here are Bollywood diva’s at the various award events. One would think at award events these beauties would like to look their best. But ahem, we don’t know what to say! How can so many of them manage to look disastrous and kill fashion in the same night!

Deepika Padukone

Wearing a black Prabal Gurung dress, Deepika looks fashionably challenged!! Yes, that’s the word for her! The dress was rather confusing and the frills look like curtain hangings to be honest!

Malaika Arora

Umm, Cinderella much? How old does Malaika Arora think she is? 18? No! Common lady! You are Bollywood’s fashion Queen, you don’t need to be Cinderella.

Mugdha Godse

Well if Malaika was trying to nail the Cinderella look, we are sure that Mugdha wanted to be Calypso from Pirates of The Caribbean. Whoever did design such a dress? And why did Mugdha wear such a dress!! Well that’s a mystery to us.

Parineeti Chopra

You know what they say about making a mistake. If it’s made once, its a mistake but if you keep on repeating it, its a choice. And we think Parineeti prefers to be a fashion disaster. Yeah, she is wearing a Sabyasachi, but of all the things Sabya has to offer, why this?!

Amrita Rao

Hmm.. so far we had Cinderella, Calypso and now we have Cinderella’s evil step sister! The blue velvet jacket is so not going with her fairy gown. And shoulder pads? Are you serious? What do you guys think?
