Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar often referred to as Khiladi was born on 9th September 1967. Born Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, he later changed his name to Akshay Kumar. He has so far appeared in over a hundred Hindi movies. Apart from being an actor, he is a trained martial artist and also produces movies.

Akshay Kumar’s major breakthrough was because the famous Khiladi series. He has done several movies under the Khiladi title starting from Khiladi, Mai Khiladi Tu Anari, Sabse Bada Khiladi to a very recent movie, Khiladi 786 which was released in 2012. He often performs his own stunts which gave him the title of Indian Jackie Chan. Besides movies, Akshay also hosted four television series. He made his debut as a television host with the show Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi. Akshay Kumar joined the 100 crore club when his movies, Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore made exceptional profits at the box office.

As of 2013, Akshay has won 44 awards, out of which two of them were Filmfare awards for Best Villain for Ajnabee and Best Comedian for Garam Masala. Apart from these awards Akshay was also honoured with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award by the Government of India in 2007 and with Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award in 2009 and in 2010 by the government of India. In 2008, Akshay was given an Honorary Doctorate of Law by the University of Windsor for his outstanding work in the film industry and for his contribution to social work.

Akshay Kumar is married to Twinkle Khanna, daughter of yesteryear actors, Dimple Khapadia and Rajesh Khanna. Akshay Kumar has two kids, Aarav and Nitara.
