Abhay Deol is all set to join the list of Bollywood actors who’ve been anchors/hosts for game shows and reality TV shows. He will be seen hosting Zee TV’s new reality show, ‘Connected Hum Tum’. Abhay Deol revealed his favourite host on TV is Salman Khan because he connects well with the fans.

“My favorite host on television is Salman Khan. I think he connects well with the audiences’. I like his style, sense of humor and his honesty while hosting shows,” said Abhay.

Well, even we are fans of Salman’s way of hosting shows. Especially Bigg Boss and we can’t wait for season 7 to start already! We also wish Abhay Deol the very best for his TV show!

Abhay will be seen as a host on Zee TV’s reality show “Connected Hum Tum”.

“I didn’t have a plan to come on TV, so there is no point of coming late to TV. It’s just that I liked the show, so I gave the nod to it. I never thought that I will ever be doing a reality show or will host a show on television,” the 37-year-old actor told reporters here Monday.

“It’s not a question of time, it’s a question of subject and project. When I came across a good project, I said yes,” he added.

The show will feature six women from different walks of life with the camera constantly following them.

On the big screen, Abahy will be seen when Anand L. Rai-directed “Raanjhanaa”, also starring Sonam Kapoor and southern star Dhanush, will come out June 21.

“They are very friendly. There were no issues at all…not even on a single day,” Rai said in a group interview.

“Raanjhanaa” will see Abhay teaming up with Sonam and southern star Dhanush.

Abhay plays a guy from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and his character is completely opposite to Dhanush, who will be seen as someone from Benaras, Uttar Pradesh.

“I needed someone with Abhay’s persona to stand in front of a boy from Benaras. I needed that confidence and complete character. I wanted to say that Indian youth, whether they are from Benaras like Dhanush or a JNU student in Delhi like Abhay, they have one thing in common, which is confidence,” said Rai.

He added that Abhay was his choice for the role.

He praised Sonam too and said: “The best part about her is that she lives at Juhu (in Mumbai) and is Anil Kapoor’s daughter. She was born and brought up in Bollywood, but she has a middle-class girl in her…I met Anil sir because of Sonam. It all comes from there. They are pure middle-class people and she has those values.”

Sonam plays a simple girl in the film and it was these values in her that convinced the director to cast her.

“Raanjhanaa” is coming out June 21.

“If every star refuses to work with me, am I going to stop making movies? Not at all! So, I will keep making movies with or without them,” Zoya said here recently.

Zoya has worked with stars like Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Abhay Deol and even her actor-filmmaker brother Farhan Akhtar. She admits the presence of known names spells business.

“Stars ensure an opening and that’s why they are stars. They ensure eyeballs and they ensure people will notice your film. Some of them are amazing actors, who fit perfectly into a film. They are also very exciting to work with,” she said.

As of now, Zoya awaits the release of “Bombay Talkies”, which includes one of her short films.

According to Abhay, the award system in India is not clean. Either the awards are rigged or actors are paid for the presence and so they attend the function. “Talk to any actor off record and he will tell you, you either go because you are winning an award or you go because you are getting paid. Otherwise, you don’t go,” Abhay said.

Speaking candidly during the interactive session, Abhay added, “In that case, pay me and I’ll perform. If you tell me you are awarding talent, then no. It is just an exercise in appeasing those you have worked with or appeasing those you want to work with.”

Recalling an incident way back in 2009, his film Dev D had made waves all around the nation. Abhay’s performance was electrifying and well-appreciated. However, leave alone an award, the actor was not even nominated for one.

“I was promoting ‘Road, Movie’ at the time the Filmfare Awards were happening, and no one wanted to talk to me about ‘Road…’. The entire press wanted to know why I wasn’t selected for an award. And I said, ‘It was a family fare. If you are part of the family, then you will get it.’ And I stick by that,” Abhay said.

“The validation that I might be doing something right is the fact that I didn’t get the award,” he joked.
