Abhay Deol was born on 15 March 1976, and is the nephew of Bollywood actor Dharmendra, and the cousin of Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Esha Deol, Ahana Deol. Abhay started his career in 2005 with the film Socha Na Tha. His second film released in 2006 and was titled Ahista Ahista. The movie failed miserably at the Box Office. In 2007 he tasted success once again with Honeymoon Travels Pvt.Ltd. The film had a multi-star cast and emerged as a winner at the box office. His next two the same year, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local and Manorama Six Feet Under, went unnoticed at the box office. However, the film won an award at the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival in New York City. Abhay’s popularity took a leap in the 2008 release Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! which became his first commercial hit.
Deol devised and enacted the title role of Devdas in the 2009 film Dev.D. He did Road, opposite Tannishtha Chatterjee. He has also started producing films through his company Forbidden Films. For ‘Basra’, the first film under his new production company, Deol learned the Israeli martial art Krav Maga. Abhay did a special Item number for the movie Tera Kya Hoga Johnny in 2010. He also trained to be a deep-sea diver for his 2011 film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which was filmed in Spain and became the biggest hit of the year 2012. Abhay was last seen in Shanghai.
