Bachna Ae Haseeno Movie Review

Ranbir Kapoor got such a meaty offer from Yash Raj Films right in the beginning of his career. Expectations from this movie were obviously high.Bachna Ae Haseeno promises you everything that the other Yash Raj films have offered you previously, good music, good star-cast, fairly good script and performances and ofcourse snow-capped mountains of Switzerland and the Sarson Ke Khet of Punjab.

The story unfolds with Raj (as usual) who is just not the typical Yash Raj hero (ala Shahrukh Khan) but is the ‘aaj ka typical nau-jawan who usually has multiple relationships in life’. As he grows through the various stages of life he meets stereotypical women characters and has relationships with them.

Teenager Raj falls in love with Mahi (Minissha Lamba). A stereotypical teenage girl who feeds on the romanticisms of DDLJ and is too innocently positive in life. Ultimately, Raj screws it all up and they break up. Years later in 2000, Raj, like all graduates is busy trying to get his career going with a busy and monotonous job, he falls in love with a very skimply clad neighbour, bombshell Radhika (Bipasha Basu). Attraction graduates to love and just when marriage is on the cards, he screws it all up again by fleeing to Sydney. In Sydney, he falls in love with Gayatri (Deepika), a cabbie. This time, Raj is quite seriously in love with Gayatri but Gayatri is a stereotypical career oriented woman who doesnt believe in marriage and ends up breaking Raj’s heart.

Raj getting a taste of his own medicine, gets enlightened and is ready to repent and seek forgiveness of his former girlfriends.

Performances were good, Minissha Lamba’s performance seems the best of the three. Bipasha and Ranbir dont share a chemistry. Deepika Padukone also plays her part well. Ranbir Kapoor, has a good screen presence and he looks very promising. The first half of the movie is interesting but the second half becomes a bit draggy and predictable. So there are glitches in the film but it is worth watching.

My Rating – 3.5/5
