Last week, India’s fashion moguls and queens were all over Amazon India’s Couture Week which had the likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kalki Koechlin gracing the ramp. But what’s such immaculately-tailored finesse without luxe-worth jewels to match with?
India International Jewellery Week 2015 kicked off in Mumbai on August 3, and from the first show itself, they had their bling game on. Besides the shoulder-grazing chandelier earrings, multi-layered gold necklaces and maharaja-esque head pieces, the star showstoppers were a major highlight.
A look at this perfect marriage of Bollywood and bling.
Day one started off with an inauguration ceremony with brand ambassador Sonam Kapoor donning an emerald-green floor-grazing gown by Michael Costello which was accentuated by some serious diamond sparkle. We loved the illusion-inducing neckline and that back.
Star of the moment, tennis sensation Sania Mirza was the first show-stopper. She adorned the runway for her Hyderabad friend, Moni Agarwal in a purple and pink sari. Chitrangada Singh was seen in a bridal-like red lehanga and was decked heavily in gold jewellery for Shobha Shringar. Juhi Chawla looked every bit ethereal in a black sari and sported gold malas for Tanishq.
Day two’s big moment were those of Soha Ali Khan glided down the runway for Surya gold in association with Swarosvki Gemstones, looking every bit the Pataudi princess in a gown and a glittering crown to match said title. Breaking into a little gig, she enjoyed herself quite a lot. The stunning Evelyn Sharma looked dainty in a pink lehanga-jacket ensemble to showcase Aara by Avantika and Dhruv’s jewellery. Gitanjali Gems opted to close the second day of IIJW with Hrishitaa Bhatt as the showstopper in the ultimate necklace which she wore as a head piece.
When Jaipur’s best takes centre stage with Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers, expect nothing short of a royal treasure trove in the hindsight. The ever-so-gorgeous Dia Mirza took to the ramp for them in a Queen Niloufer inspired look. Preity Zinta looked surreal in a heavy red and golden lehenga as she portrayed Rajput princess Jodha Bai on the ramp. Aditi Rao Hydari walked the ramp for You Be Jewellery in a pearl and diamond masterpiece. Adding oomph was Richa Chadda in an off-shoulder cream gown with eccentric statement pieces by Gemological Science International.
Following suit was lovely Ileana D’ Cruz in a macaroon-yellow gown and walked for the label, Jewels by Preety. Sophie Choudry dazzled in an emerald green as she took the ramp for Diosa Jewels in association with Swarovski Gemstones. Also seen, was Kiara Advani (of Fugly fame) in a strapless wine coloured gown as she turned showstopper for AAKS Jewels.
