It’s Bhai time of the year again when countless Bhai fans will throng the theatre to witness another spectacle from Salman Khan and this time it is Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a tribute of sorts to Bollywood’s favourite superstar where in many sense he plays himself i.e. a character larger than life. However, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has more to offer than the regular stuffs a typical Salman Khan movie has.
A movie having Salman Khan rewrite the ethos relate to mass entertainment. First of all they are no-brainers and if you try to look for logic behind such movies, you are making a terrible mistake because once you get the ticket a statutory warning comes that asks you to leave behind your brains at home. Ever since Wanted, Salman’s movies have been box-office success and he was dubbed Rajini Khan by a section of the crowd. It was only in a movie like Tere Naam he showed us what he was capable of something that he did in Veergati as well, but that happened in the 90s. Salman is now synonymous with mass entertainment and Bajrangi Bhaijaan too will live up to the tag.
When a Bollywood narrative includes India and Pakistan in the story, be sure to have a box-office success as critical appraisal becomes nugatory in that sense. Gadar, as you will remember is one of the biggest blockbuster of all times had Sunny Deol going to Pakistan to bring back his wife. Bajrangi Bhaijaan too has a similar premise where Salman has to travel to Pakistan to help a girl return to his homeland. Maybe, Bollywood too is getting tired of the Pakistan-bashing and finally has decided to explore ways where the ties can be improved. Then elements already are at work to disrupt Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s release but we hope that Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be out without any controversies that might sabotage it.
Another reason why Bajrangi Bhaijaan is going to have a strong box-office opening is the Salman-Kareena Kapoor jodi that has already worked magic in several movies like Bodyguard that is one of the biggest-grosser in Bollywood. Their jodi always works irrespective of how the movie has performed at the box-office and as some critics suggest that their onscreen chemistry is simply irresistible. That’s another reason to go and watch Bajrangi Bhaijaan where Salman and Kareena Kapoor are bound to sizzle. This time though both of them are in a very de-glamourized role but even then many can’t stop raving about the fashion statement made by Kareena Kapoor.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the poster boy of offbeat movies, has once again teamed up with Salman after Kick and this time thankfully he plays a sort of guide/friend to him instead of the antagonistic role he had in Kick. But Nawaz should once again brace himself for the brickbats that he received for Kick because he changed this careergraph by trying to get into the commercial mould. Now that’s precisely the problem most of us have when we see a talented actor trying to go commercial and we feel he or she has lost it totally. A number of critics played spoilsport on how Nawazuddin has sold his soul by acting opposite Salman. Not only was it preposterous but also damning because we were not giving a talented actor a chance to choose his projects and acting spoilsport. As Nawaz himself puts in “working in commercial movies helps me reach to a wider audience.” We hope Bajrangi Bhaijaan will give Nawazuddin even more fan following that he definitely deserves.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s music, composed by Pritam is already soaring through the charts and that’s another reason why it can be considered to be a total paisa vasool entertainer. The song Selfie Le Le Re is rage among the youth while the other tracks, both harmonious and lyrical are doing very well. Looks like Pritam has composed another winner.
All these things, the story, the actor, the premise as well as the music and, above all, Salman Khan will definitely make Bajrangi Bhaijaan an endearing watch. Legions of Salman Khan fans are waiting for this movie and once it conquers the box-office, it will also give Salman Khan a much needed breather he needs to set aside his personal problems that has been bugging him for some time now.
