A dekko into Lakmè Fashion Week WINTER/FESTIVE 2014, so far

We already know that the Lakmè Fashion Week WINTER/FESTIVE 2014 is going on in full swing with as many as 86 super talented designers showcasing their creativity and innovative collection. And while we are loving all the new trends that are already on display, what we love even more is the presence of an A-list celebrity presence on the ramp.

The opening day of LFW WINTER/FESTIVE 2014, Aug 20, saw the very stunning Shilpa Shetty and gorgeous Sushmita Sen sashay down the ramp, with the former dressed in a black slinky gown with huge prints and a draped dupatta from fashion designer Masaba Gupta’s collection themed ‘wanderess’, which looked adventurous and feisty yet delicate with a very vintage feel to it. While Sush looked drop dead gorgeous in a black gown with a transparent back as the showstopper for designer, Amit Aggarwal, whose collection portrayed tribal artifacts and incorporated ethnic weaving techniques, stripped tattoos and structured jewelry. Ms. Sen says she felt sexy and very eloquent.

WeThinks: The only good thing in this entire collection is having Shilpa Shetty on the ramp. She even works that weird outfit. The prints are so big and overwhelming that they look jarring to the eyes. Masaba is definitely talented, this entire collection looks overworked.
As for Amit Aggarwal’s collection, It was a snooze fest. There is nothing in this collection that we have not seen before. I think he just used the leftover pieces from his previous collections and presented it on the runway! Only Sushmita’s outfit was bearable.

This day was all about handloom. Showstopper Konkana Sen Sharma walked the ramp for Anavila Sandhu Mishra for the collection titled ‘Mohenjoc Daro’ that included woven shirt-blouses in shimmery colors and loosely tied sarees. Konkana looked extremely graceful in a mustard yellow sari and gold blouse, with a bun, a bronze coin-necklace, a white sandalwood paste bindi and silver heels completing her look.
Jacqueline Fernandez walked for designer Anju Modi, looking classic and elegant in a red and gold bridal lehenga and a crop top choli which had intricate detailing. Heavy bangles with semi precious stones and a touch of gold finished out her look. She looked like a dream.

WeThinks: Anavila’s collection is simply superb. Most of the pieces are very wearable off ramp. As for Anju Modi’s collections, the intricacy behind some of her designs is jaw droppingly beautiful! These outfits are a work of art!

Some truly gorgeous designs were showcased on this day. Showstoppers Chitrangda Singh, Neha Dhupia and Sonal Chauhan walked the ramp for Harshita Chatterjee, Swati Vijaivargie, and Purvi Doshi respectively. Ms. Singh donned a blood red lehenga and golden blouse with long sleeves. Her jewellery included heavy golden neckpiece, nose ring, and bangles. Gorgeous would be an understatement. Ms. Dhupia flaunted Swati’s colourful ensemble – Ankle length vertical pants, rangoli patterned blue top and a golden zardosi pattern skirt and a navy blue printed silk scarf around her neck. Beige open high heels and a messy bun hairstyle with braids finished her look. Meanwhile, Sonal looked like a Rajput princess in a sleeveless off white long skirt and top with mirror work all over it.

WeThinks: Swati Vijaivargie’s collection, we loved the prints and the color combo! Harshita and Purvi’s collection too were every bit gorgeous!

Stay tuned as we bring to you Day 4 and Day 5 collections in out second series.
