Shah Rukh Khan launched the first trailer of his forthcoming home production Happy New Year, on the eve of India’s Independence Day. Directed by Farah Khan and produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment, HNY is centred around six losers who set out to change their destiny.
What are your expectations from Happy New Year?
The film is not about one actor, it is an ensemble film. It’s about six losers (played by Shah Rukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah) and one mission. It is dedicated to losers.
Who is a loser?
It is not necessary that if you do not win even after repeatedly trying, that you are a loser. This is what Happy New Year is all about. This film is about the biggest heist but it is about hope, belief and goodness. This film is a celebration and most importantly it is as happy as its title.
Your director Farah Khan says there are no guns in the film.
We kept joking and teasing Farah that being a lady director, action would be her weak point. I mean she has a macho man like Sonu Sood and the ultimate he-man Jackie Shroff in her cast! Let me tell you, I have worked with some of the finest directors, but when it comes to projecting aggression on screen, nobody does it better than Farah Khan.
Action has become a major selling point for films these days. Do you have major action sequences in the film?
Happy New Year has much more action than our past two films (Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om). Sonu’s introduction, my introduction and the whole heist in itself is very thrilling, active and forms a major part of the film.
