With Salman Khan’s Kick still going strong at the cinema halls, producer-director Sajid Nadiadwala cannot stop smiling. His debut film as a director has almost reached Rs 200 crores mark, making him the highest grossing debutant director in Indian cinema. On Monday some have started claiming that Kick had crossed Rs 200 crores in the domestic market with superficial figures but truth is that Kick will touch Rs 200 crores mark either on Monday or Tuesday. We give you ten days collections lowdown.
While the Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez starrer earned Rs 80 crores plus in the opening weekend, the movie managed to earn approximately Rs 100 crores in its second week including weekend collections summing up to Rs 180 crores plus in ten days. “The movie has earned approximately Rs 180 crores plus till Sunday (August 3) and is expected to cross Rs 200 crores by Monday or Tuesday,” informs Atul Mohan of Complete Cinema adding, “Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut starring his good friend Salman Khan struck gold at the box office in its first week. Released on record number of screens, it did fabulous business not only on the opening day and weekend but also on weekdays thanks to Eid. With collections of cose to Rs 180 crores plus till Sunday it’s already a blockbuster.
“As no major film released this week, it is going to keep up its grip on the box office and add more moolah to its kitty. The film has also posted outstanding collections in neighboring Pakistan. According to reports, it has managed to garner such good collections that cinemas in city like Karachi had to add morning shows to meet the demand! Certainly a great beginning for Sajid as a director and a great mid-year gift for the industry,” adds Atul.
The leading exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi suggests, “I guess it should have crossed Rs 200 crores mark as we talk. It has sustained very well in its second week. While there have been talks about Kick surpassing Dhoom 3’s box office collections, it looks like a distant dream. Heavy rains across Mumbai and major metropolitan cities have created a major havoc thereby affecting the film’s business considerably. With Entertainment releasing next week along with four Hollywood releases, Kick will lose out on the number of screens and its going to get divided.”
Undoubtedly, 2914 has been a glorious year for Sajid Nadiadwala, especially after gifting three back-to-back hits to the audiences as a producer in the very same year – Highway, 2 States and Heropanti which were received well at the box office and Kick has taken the benchmark even higher. Let’s wait and watch for the lifetime box office collections of Kick and whether Sallu be able to set new benchmark..
