It’s no surprise that the Salman Khan starrer Kick will be his fastest ever film to touch the magical figure of Rs 100 crore but still industry insiders and trade pundits were hopeful that this Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut would make Rs 100 crore in the first three days which could not happen.
Considering Salman’s latest Eid offering was released in more than 4500 screens in India and more than 700 screens overseas, it took a cool Rs 26 crores approximately on Friday, Rs 27 crores on Saturday and roughly Rs 30 crores on Sunday summing up to Rs 80 crores plus in the opening weekend.
Atul Mohan of Complete Cinema informs, “Kick is highest earning film released during pre-Eid festival. Besides the month of Ramzaan and monsoon season at its peak, the film has still recorded marvelous figures over the weekend. The business will witness massive growth once the Eid festivities begin. Hopefully, Kick will touch 100 crore today. Sajid Nadiadwala has proved his worth as the first-time director and he’s definitely here to stay. With no big release next week, Kick will enjoy a good two-week uninterrupted run at the box office. The film has done phenomenally well at the box office overseas as well, what with US recorded 1 million and approximately Rs 6 crores in Pakistan and doing well in UK and Dubai too.”
Leading exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “Salman is back and how! The collections are better than Ek Tha Tiger which was backed by a production house like Yash Raj Flms, Salman-Katrina Kaif pairing, exotic locations and good music. In that case, it’s Salman’s biggest opener. I hope Kick touches Rs 100 crore today considering people are busy with pre-Eid festival shopping and also rains that may hamper today’s collections. But post Eid, it’s going to be a Tsunami at the ticket windows as it’s going to be mad rush of Salman’s fans belonging to the Muslim community.”
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh points out, “With Kick racing towards Rs 100 crore mark, Salman Khan is the first actor to have seven 100 crore grossers to his credit – Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Bodyguard, Dabangg, Ready, Jai Ho and Kick.”
Will Kick mark Salman’s entry in Rs 200 crore club? Let’s wait and watch…
