Varun Dhawan’s Youthful Strategy

“If I shave I will look younger than Alia! Sid. Arjun and Ranveer … I am the youngest. I can stay in college the longest.”

After two successful light-hearted films in Student of The Year and Main Tera Hero, Varun Dhawan appears in yet another soft-centered film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya. The young star reveals that he wants to spread his wings … but cautiously.

While Varun’s Student Of The Year co-star Sidharth has made a splash playing a grey-shaded role in EK Villain, Varun does not want to go down that road … yet. Ask Varun if he thinks he would have been able to pull off Sidharth’s role in Ek Villain and he says, “Maybe I would have pulled it off had I got it. But I don’t want to do a role like that at the moment.”

Varun’s reasoning is: “My face doesn’t suit such roles. I need to mature first. In fact, if I shave I will look younger than Alia! Sid told me ‘I am much older than you,’ which is a fact; he is 30. Arjun and Ranveer are also older to me; I am the youngest of them all.”

But he adds with a smile: “Karan (Johar) said that it’s a disadvantage but also an advantage because you will grow in front of the audience. I can stay in college longer than anyone else … Humpty is my third film in college.”

So while this youthful strategy is working for Varun, he is also pushing the envelope by doing a thriller too – director Sriram Raghavan’s next! Varun says, “Sriram Raghavan’s film is a little twisted, not commercial masala. Sriram’s film is an out-and-out thriller … but different. For me, a thriller has to be very intelligent; I don’t want to take anything that comes my way.”
