Shraddha Kapoor – I want to work with Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan
It has been a year since Aashiqui 2 transformed your life. What have you been busy with?
I shot for two films – Vishal Bharadwaj’s Haider (opposite Shahid Kapoor) and Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain (alongside Sidharth and Ritesh) and Ek Villain is about to release. Also, I have already started rehearsing for Remo D’Souza’s ABCD 2 with Varun Dhawan.

How was it working with Mohit Suri again?

When Mohit offered me Ek Villain after Aashiqui 2, it was like winning my biggest prize. And he has offered me a totally different character to play – my character Aarohi in Aashiqui 2 was quiet and subdued whereas Aisha in Ek Villain can’t stop yapping. Mohit and I have become really good friends and our relationship has evolved because of knowing each other and spending so much time together.

Who convinced you to sing in Ek Villain?
I always wanted to sing since childhood. I had told Mohit that I want to sing when we were making Aashiqui 2 but he didn’t take me seriously. This time around, he asked me to sing the film version of ‘Galiyan’ and I recorded the song within a day of being asked. I give credit to Mohit and composer Ankit (Tiwari). Ankit was the one who told Mohit to keep my voice raw.

But didn’t your ajoba (grandfather) Pandharinath Kolhapure, a famous classical singer, teach you to sing?

I have trained very little but I would sit with my mom and grandfather whenever I had the time. My family would badger me to train my voice because they felt I had the potential but I didn’t heed it. My mom (Shivangi Kolhapure) has a very beautiful voice; she sounds like the younger version of Lata Mangeshkar. She could have pursued her career as a singer but she got married.

You have been working with all younger talents rather than the well-established heroes. Is it a conscious decision?

I am just taking all the opportunities that are coming my way. I was supposed to do Gabbar with Akshay Kumar but it didn’t work out because of my dates. I want to do movies with Shah Ruk Khan and Aamir Khan but no offer has come my way.

When are we going to see Aditya Kapoor and you together again after Aashiqui 2?
I hope when we get a really good script. It will be interesting … if it happens.

There is much buzz about Aditya and you. What’s your relationship status?
I am completely single right now. Aditya and I are very good friends, in fact all three of us (Mohit, Aditya and me) are very good friends. It is a bond that will never die because Aashiqui 2 helped us bond together. I can call them at any point of the day or night and they will be there for me.
