The last few years have seen a consistent influx of new acting talent into Bollywood. Some of these actors have exhibited definite signs of stardom, but they have not yet been able to displace the three Khans and Akshay Kumar, who are all in their late 40s now.
With the relentless march of time, it becomes imperative to ask Shahrukh Khan if he is willing to play father’s roles; and the actor reveals he has no qualms. “I have played a father earlier: the girl who played my daughter in Kuch Kuch Hota has grown up now and I met her on the sets of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’. Finally, it depends of the role. I have no issues playing a father. I played a 60-year-old in Veer Zaara and Rani played a daughter-like character. So if I can do it for Rani Mukerji, I can do it for anyone else!” explains the actor who will be seen romancing the 20-years-younger Deepika Padukone in his next film, Happy New Year.
The actor probably takes a leaf out of Amitabh Bachchan’s book; the latter had gradually graduated to playing roles suitable to his age. Shah Rukh maintains, “Amitji has played my father in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and there is a lot of respect for him. He is like a father figure in the industry!”
Shah Rukh was recently voted the most popular father in the country by a survey. His image as a dedicated father has touched a lot of people. He smiles, “All parents are heroes for their children. Thankfully, none of my children have any of my bad habits. They are good kids and are better people than I am. The only commonality between Suhana, Abram and me is that we all get dimples!”
