Akshay Kumar has formed jodis with A-list heroines, from Katrina to Kareena to Priyanka, but presently all four of his three underproduction films pit him opposite relative newcomers – he is cast opposite Tamannaah Bhatia in Its Entertainment, Lisa Hayden in Shaukeen, Taapsee Punnu in Baby and Shruti Haasan in Gabbar.
Ask the star about this recent preference for new actresses and he demurs, “I have done many films with actresses like Bipasha Basu (Ajnabee), Priyanka Chopra (Andaaz) and Lara Dutta (Andaaz) when they were new.”
Modestly claiming helplessness, he adds, “Moreover, the heroines are selected by the directors according to the role, so it’s not I who chooses.”
In his latest success, Holiday, though, Akshay is paired opposite Sonakshi Sinha for the fifth time! He points out, “I don’t have any other film with her at the moment, maybe we will work together later if I have any offers with her.”
But he does make his fondness for his hit heroine (Rowdy Rathore, Holiday) obvious. Akshay smiles, “Sonakshi is a beautiful actress and a lovely professional to work with. Some actresses take five to six hours to get ready and make everyone wait for them but then there are actresses like Sonakshi who think of the producers, get ready quickly and do their work properly.”
