After a long wait Dilip Kumar’s autobiography ‘The Substance and The Shadow’ got launched in Mumbai on 9th June at a grand event. Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan launched the book along with superstar Dilip Kumar who was present with his gorgeous wife Saira Banu at the event.
Zeenat Aman, Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar, Subhash Ghai, Sanjay leela Bhansali, Anil & Tina Ambani, Anu Mallik, Jhonny Lever, Abbas Mastan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Kiran Rao, Danny Denzongpa, Sanjay Khan, Ayan Mukerjee, Vayjanti Mala, Shaan, Raju Hirani, Javed Akhtar and many more A listers from the B-town came to support Dilip Kumar while he launched his autobiography which is penned down by author Udaya Tara Nayar.
Karan Johar hosted the gala evening and the celebrities came in with a lot of excitement as the book has different chapters of Dilip Kumar’s life, right from his childhood days till he saw the stardom. The autobiography talks about the ups and downs of Dilip Kumar’s life and the relation he shares with wife Saira Banu. This autobiography mentions many unheard stories and incidents of Dilip kumar’s 91 years of life.
It was initially confirmed that Lata Mangeshkar would also perform at the event but due to her ill health she could not be present. Also Shahrukh Khan who is a die hard Dilip Kumar fan could not be present for the launch as he was busy with some work.

Priyanka Chopra: “Without Dilip sahab this film industry is incomplete. I consider myself very lucky that I am a part of this event today as Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu have been very close to my family.
My fondest memory has been when he spoke to me in brief about acting in he film industry when i went to his house.
What makes him special is that when you talk about Dilip sahab you know what legends are all about and I am very fortunate that in my lifetime I have spend sometime with him.”
Aamir Khan: ” I have been a big Yusuf sahab fan and was eagerly waiting for this autobiography to release so that I could read about his experiences in life.
Prasoon Joshi has written a poem that i will recite for Dilip Kumar.
He has been an inspirational figure to me everytime I see him act I learn something new from him.”
Madhuri Dixit: “Not just actors, Dilip Kumar has also been an inspiration for others too and I would like to know abou what all he went through while he approached his roles and did his acting.I had done a film called Izzatdaar with him I was pretty new back then. And while he wad doing Karma I was watching him from a distance. It was wonderful and a different feeling.”
Ritesh Deshmukh: “Dilip sahab was very close to my father. Dilip Kumar was my fathers hero. So he is much more than a hero for me. Great opportunity to hear his life story from him.
Eversince we have seen someone act its only from him and the way he acts it is an influence on us. He has a lot of iconic scenes. A lot of times i try and copy him. We should complement him out of respect and love.”
Sharman Joshi: “He’s a legend/god in field of acting. It feels great to be present here and hear him talk about his life. I have seen most of his films and have some great memories. I still hope i get to work with Dilip Sahab once.”
