Even as he shuffles workshops for his next film, Ali Fazal finds himself buried under an avalanche of calls and texts thanks to the trailer of Bobby Jassos which feature the actor in a number of romantic scenes with Vidya Balan.
Talk to him about romancing Vidya, and Ali can’t help but blush! He says, “I think signing this film has been one of my best decisions in my career. My first reaction was of disbelief – this can’t be happening! It took some time for the emotions to register. Vidya is so much fun to work with; and very warm too. We played so many pranks. She is very shaatir.”
Refuting the buzz that he had apprehensions romancing the much-older Vidya, the actor insists, “I was very comfortable. She is easygoing. There was no awkwardness because Vidya is a married women and a senior actress. Maybe it was because of the workshops that we did together before we started shooting.”
He points out the movie is unique because detectives stories usually center around male characters like Sherlock Holmes and Karamchand. “I can’t recollect any story where the detective is lady,” says Ali, who reads a whole lot of Indian detective stories too.
He is also happy that he gets a chance to do something new with the film. “I have done away with the guitar in this film,” he sighs. I think I should henceforth include in my contract that I will not be using the guitar in any film,” quips the actor who was first seen in 3 Idiots strumming to the song ‘Give me some sunshine’ and was seen playing a guitar-strumming singer in Fukrey last year.
Ali will be seen next in Vishesh Films’ Khamoshiyan and Rohan Sippy’s next which is titled Sonali Cable which he says has a fabulous script. He has also recently shot his debut Hollywood film, Fast and Furious 7. He shot with the likes of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and the late Paul Walker for the film. Ali says, “I have mixed emotions about this project. Getting to work in such a huge franchise is awesome, but Paul Walker’s demise caused grief to everyone.”
