Sonakshi Sinha has been paired up with Akshay Kumar more than any other hero since she made her debut opposite Salman Khan in Dabangg. Though she has done films with the likes of Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor in the interim period, producers find something special about her sharing screen space with Akshay.
“Akshay has now changed Murugadoss completely. Today, he can be seen laughing all the time.”
Rowdy Rathore, Joker, Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Again, a special song-n-dance number in Boss and now Holiday! How is it that you have ended up doing so many films with Akshay?
People have appreciated our pairing and this is the reason why filmmakers have cast us together time and again. It happens every time a good and possible ‘jodi’ is seen on screen. Still, it is always a fresh start because the premise of every film is different. Rowdy Rathore was different and now Holiday is in a different space.
How has your equation with Akshay changed from the time you worked with him as a raw newcomer?
Akshay hasn’t changed and hence there is a comfort level that comes in when we work together. As a result of that, it is easy to create that certain chemistry on screen. That is something which has been consistent in all our onscreen appearances together.
Holiday is pitched as an action thriller but your job seems to be to bring in the fun element.
A concept like this has never been tried before in Bollywood. The film is quite thrilling in its own way, and of course quite entertaining too! Though the essence of the film is very serious, it has some great music as well as some very funny light moments. I love the core plot of the film which is about an officer always being on duty. Akshay’s character is very interesting as he goes all out to stop a crime from happening.
You are working with director A.R. Murugadoss of Ghajini fame for the first time. How has that turned out?
He is a very sorted director. What is really impressive about him is that he is always very thoroughly prepared. When it comes to his core work, he knows what he is doing. He is very intelligent too and that has helped while directing the intelligent plot of the film.
So was it a fun shoot at all?
(Laughs) Actually, when we started shooting for the film, Murugadoss was quiet and in his world. However, Akshay has now changed him completely. Today, he can be seen laughing all the time.
