Akshaye Khanna may not be the most sought after actor when it comes to main stream Bollywood entertainer but there is no denying the fact that he has had his share of several critical and commercial acclaimed films. Though we have not seen Akshay in many “masaledar” films surprising he has romanced most of the reigning queens of Bollywood right from Aishwarya Rai to Priyanka Chopra. Today, i.e. 28th of March Akshay turns 39. We will take you through his journey in Bollywood filled with ups and downs!
Akshaye had an unsuccessful debut and followed it up by a power pact role in Border, that earned him much applause. After that what followed was only a string of unsuccessful films. He next saw day ligt only in 1999 where he was cast opposite Aishwarya Rai in Taal, that was a commercial as well as a critical success. In 2001, Akshaye Khanna appeared in Farhan Akhtar’s cult classic Dil Chahta Hai which turned out to be a turning point in his career. Though it was a multi starer, Akshaye Khanna’s performance was particularly applauded, later validated by Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2002. Dil Chahta Hai relaunched Akshaye Khanna’s career and gave him fresh hopes. Though nothing dramatic happened later, Akshaye was however unanimously acknowledged for his portrayal of Harilal Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s eldest son, in the critically acclaimed 2007 film Gandhi, My Father. This was undoubtedly his best film by far.
