Maid-rape case negating chances of work for Shiney Ahuja?

Shiney Ahuja, who has not been seen on screen ever since being accused of raping his maid in 2009, recently approached Mahesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films; looking for work. The actor, who was seen in Mahesh Bhatt’s films like Woh Lamhe and Gangster, was accused of raping his maid and the case is still being tried in court. Subsequently, Bhatt associates ruled against casting him in any projects till he’s been proven innocent in court.

Shiney knew that I would meet him warmly, and I did,” says Mahesh Bhatt, “I called in Vikram Bhatt, Mohit Suri and Karan Dara and informed them Shiney wants to get his career back on track. I told them to consider Shiney as a potential candidate for key roles in their new ventures.”

Bhatt added that Shiney seemed meek and nervous and very low on self esteem. “Today, he is not the Shiney I knew,” admits Bhatt. The prospect of casting him was discussed at length and most members of the team said they had reservations about casting him. It was pointed out that casting someone who has been accused of rape could raise serious questions against the banner. Also, if he is declared guilty during mid-shoot, it will seriously hamper the project.

“I have understood their concerns. And I reiterate what I said earlier that if proven guilty by the highest court, then he deserves to be punished according to the law,” said Bhatt.
