These days, our Bollywood filmmakers are targeting mostly the younger generation and the cooler lot by coming up with films like Fukrey, What the Fish and Hasee Toh Phasee – Love Goes Cucking Frazy, playing it often and safe with the ‘F’ word. The next flick has been titled ‘Fugly’, which is on the same lines.
Says Vinil Mathew, who directed Hasee Toh Phasee, “These lines and titles show the duality in our audience. While we have one chunk which is cool, we also need to ensure that we don’t offend the bigger, more conservative and sensitive audience. These clever lines ensure that we get the message across without ruffling any feathers.”
Fukrey director Mrigdeep Singh Lamba says, “We are talking to a generation that is more exposed to media, apart from print and television. Social networking sites have very little censoring and we need to cater to them in their own slang.”
