A day before the big release of her film Hasee Toh Phasee, Parineeti Chopra gets candid about a lot of things. She admits that though actors have insecurities amongst themselves, everyone is good friends.
“There is no denying the fact that insecurities exist for actors too. Everybody in the industry works hard, but you have to understand the fact that as actors, our careers are not in our hands. We depend entirely on the acceptance by the viewers. Everybody wants to be an actor, a director, and works diligently. I have given my best in Hasee Toh Phasee. But some make it, and some don’t because some like you, and some don’t; some are born with the face, and some not. So yes, these ideas do exist. I think because we are dependent on public opinion, there is always a great sense of anxiety,” she explains.
On being asked what she feels when she is compared to her elder cousin Priyanka Chopra, she says “Comparisons with Priyanka are so futile and unnecessary. I love her work, and I say this not just as a sibling but also as an actor. And I obviously feel proud when people say, ‘Priyanka is a good actress and so is Parineeti’. As long as the comparison remains like this, I don’t have a problem. But yes, as an actor you do get selfish and make an attempt to create a name for yourself, your own identity and image. And that’s what even I want to achieve. I hope, one day, in that sense, there is a division. Since I’m Priyanka’s sister, I will always be compared with her. It would be great to work with Priyanka, but there has to be a great script too.”
About the National Award that she won (Special Mention for Ishaqzaade), she says “I was quite surprised when I got a Special Mention for my first film. Since I give my best to each film, I would want to the biggest honours to be given to me. As an actress, I would like to win a national award every year, but this doesn’t mean I will only do roles that will help me bag national awards. Not at all. My current ambition is to establish myself as the best actress so that the directors and co-stars are confident of me. I would want to achieve this with my first 5 films and will start experimenting more with the roles I want to do. I will do films for different reason.”
Hasee Toh Phasee starring Parineeti and Siddharth Malhotra, is being released tomorrow.
