Though the movie was much anticipated, Jai Ho didn’t manage to be as successful as any of Salman Khan’s other films. From bad promotional strategies to Salman’s untimely visit to Narendra Modi, the movie had a lot of things to pull it down. It didn’t do half as well as his recent films like Dabangg 2 or Ek Tha Tiger. Sadly for Salman Khan, this movie was something that he loved and put a lot of faith in.
So what was the major reason behind the failure? The big, bad evil that haunts the film-industry: Piracy.
Reportedly, the day the film was released, it was leaked onto the internet in Dubai and was uploaded to YouTube by a random, unknown user. Though there have been a lot of movies leaked and uploaded onto the internet, this is the quickest pirated version.
The first pirated version of the film was available for download on the day of the film’s release and the YouTube version was uploaded on January 28th. The YouTube video had 1,08,151 views when it was removed from the website. But later, a better print of the film was uploaded again.
If 1 Lakh people watched the film on YouTube, it accounts to a loss of almost 10 crores, as per industry analysts.
Analyst Taran Adarsh says “Piracy should be fought back by the industry and the government. These days, a movie releases worldwide and it is difficult to keep a track from where an incident of piracy can occur. The video should be removed instantly, as crores are at stake.”
