Many of the present B-Town actors were child artistes once upon a time. While there were many child artists who captivated the audiences with their cute looks and the commanding screen presence they had at such a young age, not many made it big as adults. Let’s take a look at some of the actors who started off as child artistes and made it big later.
Aamir Khan, who was first seen on screen in 1973 in the film Yaadon Ki Baarat is now one of the finest actors of the Indian cinema. Also a film-maker, his first production Lagaan was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars.
Hrithik Roshan, as a child artist, acted in films like Aap Ke Deewane and Bhagwan Dada. He later made his debut as a lead actor in the year 2000 with Rakesh Roshan’s Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. The rest, as they say, is history.
The cute kid in the 1999 movie Sangharsh was Alia Bhatt, the hot babe who made her debut 13 years later in the film Student Of The Year.
Aftab Shivdasani was seen as a child artiste in many films in the 80s. Later, he made his debut as a lead actor in the Ram Gopal Varma film Mast. Though he didn’t make it huge, he has quite a number of films in his filmography.
The cute kid who played the role of Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah’s son in the cult film Masoom is none other than the actor-filmmaker Jugal Hansraj. He wasn’t much successful as an actor but found a little success as a filmmaker.
Kunal Khemu was praised for his performance as a child artist in Aaamir Khan-Karisma Kapoor starrer Raja Hindustani. He was then seen in Zakhm and Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke. However, Kunal’s performance as an actor in Kalyug did not find him a place in Bollywood though his performance received accolades.
Urmila Matondkar also made her screen debut in the movie Masoom but later she was seen as a lead actress in several high profile movies in the 1990s, like Rangeela, Kaun, etc.
Sanjay Dutt made his child debut with Reshma Aur Shera (1972). He then made his debut as an actor with the 1981 film Rocky. The actor is currently serving a prison sentence in the Pune’s Yerwada Prison.
This lad made his first screen debut in the 90s, appearing in movies like Pardes, Taal, etc. He later made his debut as a male lead in the movie Shaapit in 2009. He found success as a singer; along the lines of his father Udit Narayan.
