Bollywood super star Salman Khan’s latest movie Jai Ho, which hit the screen across the world today has received mind-boggling response at the Indian Box Office on it’s opening day. If the buzz is to go by, the Sohail Khan directorial is likely to break the domestic collection record of Aamir Khan’s recent release Dhoom 3, which has been the biggest Bollywood opener with its first day business Rs 36.22 crores nett.
The movie Jai Ho released in a staggering 4400 screens in the domestic market and was also the most awaited Hindi movies. Besides this, one more crucial factor which gave the movie a major boost is ‘Salman-mania‘ which is currently at it’s peak, has managed to drive unprecedented crowd of viewers towards the theaters screening the film across the country. At many places film goers were seen eagerly waiting in long ques to buy tickets in wee hours.
Jai Ho, which has Salman Khan and Daisy Shah in prominent roles has managed to register 95-100% occupancy in multiplexes as well as the single screens in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Delhi and Ahmadabad. Jai Ho however took a little beating in the Northern parts of India where an average of 70%-85% occupancy was registered in the morning and matinee shows. However, its business is expected to grow up in the later shows.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh writes, “The single screens opened to a better response than most plexes. However, the film has had an extensive release, with plexes performing 15 to 20 shows every single day. At some plexes, the shows are more than 20 as well.”
Salman Khan is considered as the undisputed king when it comes to the openings of a Hindi movie. Salman’s 2012 release Ek Tha Tiger was biggest opener until the release of Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express last year. Aamir Khan’s recent release Dhoom 3 has become the biggest Bollywood opener. It’ll be interesting to see if Jai Ho can manage to beat all previous opening day records across the country.
